small-mid-size schools with good CogSci/Linguistics departments

I want to double major in cognitive science (or a form of cogsci) and linguistics in college, and although these majors are not set in stone, I am very interested in these fields and I'm trying to find small to mid sized (preferably mid-sized) schools that offer these majors. Schools that I am interested in that offer these are Rice (my top choice) and Pomona, but alas, they are reaches. I know that many great public schools offer these different majors like UCSD and Berkeley, but they are too big for my taste. I'm from southern California and would love a change of pace as well (I'd love to go to school on the East Coast). I am looking for match schools and maybe a couple of reaches to apply to. UW GPA I have about a 3.7-3.75 and 4.05-4.1 weighted. Hoping to get a 2200+ but realistically I think I could manage to get a 2100+

Also I would like schools that weight essays and recommendations almost or just as heavily as course rigor and GPA, because I think it is through these that I may be able to shine in the admissions process!

University of Rochester

U Delaware?

Ditto the University of Rochester.

I’ll definitely look into Rochester. I’ve also had Reed on my list for a while, although they do not offer a Cognitive Science major. Does anyone have any interaction with Reed’s linguistics department?

I don’t know anything about Reed’s linguistics department, sorry, but I was looking for the same majors in my college search this year. You could also look at Brown, Lehigh, and Northwestern.

They have their own School of Cognitive Science. Hampshire professors also wrote one of the earliest undergrad textbooks in the field.

You can also take pretty much as many classes as you want at UMass and Amherst.
