I was just wondering... can financial aid help cover something that's not a degree. Like certificate programs and so?

Small a…Yes

I think it depends. There are some certification programs at places that do not have federally funded aid.

Yes, some certificate programs are long enough for you to get fafsa assistance (although some of these tech schools don’t have the ability to do loans) so it would be federal or state grants only (if you qualify for those). Some of the most common certificate programs are at community colleges and tech schools. LPN/LVN programs are not degree programs and they are eligible. There are many other instances of year long (or slightly less) programs being eligible.

The most common programs offered NOT eligible for financial aid are truck driving, CNA and those short term month long computer certification programs like Microsoft, Oracle, and other certs and things like that. They aren’t long enough to get any sort of federal aid. There is a clock hour minimum regulation, but I can’t remember the min number of hours required right now. Massage therapy used to be a big no, but now that is not as absolute as it used to be. As the professions get older and the schools are open long enough to apply for federal funding some of the for-profits for trade professions are actually getting approved.
