Small town Indiana girl- could I make it to Pepperdine?

I was just wondering what my chances are for Pepperdine University in Malibu, CA. It seems to be the perfect school and its perfection leads it to be unattainable, but I'd like to be sure either way.

Well, I'm pretty sure that's everything. While I am from a small town in Indiana, I happen to attend the best school in the state so it's not exactly the hill billy atmosphere one may expect. I really hope that someone can tell me if I can even dream of Pepperdine. If anyone has information on Rice that would be fantastic too. Thanks!!

I know someone who got in with around a 3.5 unweighed and a 2040 on their SATs. But their extracurricular was not as good as yours. The person I know lives in California though, not sure if that makes a difference or not. Good luck non the less.

You have a chance- you are a good all-round student. Yes, being from Indiana should help with Pepperdine and maybe with Rice. If you can improve your SAT score, you will have an OK chance at both. Schools are sort of ignoring the writing portion of the score, so if you did well on the other two parts, that will help.

Yeah, what these folks said. Bring your SAT up, and you'll be fine.

what about pepperdine attracts you. for me it was mostly the location. but i've heard a lot about its strict religious affiliation. i assume you're down with this?

There's a lot. For one, it's across the country which should be fun. My brother went to Stanford so I think it would be cool to have a somewhat similar college experience (as opposed to my safety- DePauw.) The location is obviously fantastic, and I'd like to go to a school that would be recognized no matter where I live. DePauw would be great if I decided to stay in Indiana, but I can't be sure what I'll do in the future. My brother lives in Houston right now and he's dying for me to go to school near him thus my interest in Rice. Both seem amazing- I'm just worried that I haven't done well enough.

To which school should I apply ED, and would that even help me?

You have a good shot at Pepperdine.

Just be methodical about the application and continue to do well, then all will be good.

IB.

My bro has similar stats... he got in...

Personally, I didn't like Pepperdine when I visited/ stayed there. So small. While I don't drink, the zero-tolerance policy dulled things up a great deal. Religion is not that big (you can avoid it if you want to).

I don't want to come off as ridiculously uninformed, but what's the zero-tolerance policy? If it is what is sounds like that's actually an insane benefit because I'm really stressed out about becoming an outsider in college because I have absolutely no desire to drink or party.
