I really want to go to Cornell and so far I've been planning on applying early decision because it's the school I want to go to. However, my parents are certainly not wealthy enough to afford Cornell without a good financial aid package and although technically it's possible to get out of ED contracts, being blacklisted is no fun. I suppose you can see where I am going with this, but my question is: Will Cornell provide enough financial aid so that my parents can afford to send me or should I wait it out and apply regular decision?

Cornell is not known for overly generous financial aid. If finances are an issue, it would be best for you to apply RD. Then you could see what Cornell offers you in comparison to other schools' financial aid packages.

if you get out of the contract because the financial aid is not enough then you will not be blacklisted. You have to do things properly though which means you have to first appeal for a higher financial aid package- you might get lucky and get more aid... but then again you might not. If they can't reach an agreement with you they will release you from your contract and you would be free to look at other schools. ED is a pretty serious thing though so only do it if you are sure you want to go there. You sound like you are sure, but remember the problem with ED isn't that they won't release you from your contract, but that you won't ever get a chance to compare the different aid packages. I guess if your parents have a set amount of aid that they want you to get then you can apply ED, see how much aid you get, and try to negotiate with Cornell if you need to. You won't get the oppertunity to compare the package with that of the other schools though. Good luck and I hope this helps a little.

Cornell is alright with financial aid, you just have to demonstrate it. They don't hand out money like crazy, but another way to look at it, is that a Cornell degree will enable you to pay off any debt really quickly.

Well, the attitude of my parents is that they would love to be able to send me to Cornell if they can afford it. Financial aid will be necessary. And from my own selfish standpoint, if I got into Cornell RD and other schools as well, I'd hate to have to debate with my parents who would say "Well this school is cheaper and still will give you a quality education." Even though they'd be right, I'd much rather do Cornell.

Hate to do it to gain attention, but bump
