Sorry to be a bit off topic here but did anyone see Arnie get booed during the Santa Monica College graduation...

I'll be attending SMC in the fall and this concerns me a bit. Can anyone who currently attends this school comment on the political atmosphere at SMC? How is student life there? Boring/Exciting? How are the courses and profs?

SMC is mostly liberal democratic. I was there, many protestors, nothing too serious. Everywhere arnold goes, he sees protestors b.c he voted to raise tuition by 8 bucks and took money from education funds, etc.

I've talked about smc atmosphre at least 3 other times. It's vacation for me, so i am not gona say it again.

And still quite significant for many. It originally was free to attend community college. Further, that money doesn't go back to the colleges like it should...

gabe, u obviously do not go to the same ccc as i do. Before the begining of Fall 2004, the tuition was 18 at SMC. Now it's 26, having taken several calc classes i am able to calculate a 8 bucks increase.

So, i guess i can start talking trash about my CC and it wouldn't effect my mood much.

SMC Positives
1. Most classes
2. Most different times, morning night etc
3. Great resources, computers, counselors, free science, eng, and math tutoring.
4. Clubs- not sure what people do at the though :)

Extremely crowded

Parking Prob

boring b/c most student go to class and go home

Someone once said, ur best day at a CC is ur last. Thats very true

I have done summer, fall, winter, spring so far. 4 semesters roughly 42 weeks of CC. Had some good and bad moments there. Mostly good. First i was kind of depressed thinking about how much social fun i am missing and didn't like some of the people that surrounded me.

Then i met couple of nice people there, nobody that i can call on the weekend and chill w though. But at least some people who can i say hi to and ask how are u, etc on campus.

The sciences there are rigorous, people who take science classes there are very intelligent and study like crazy. It's good to be surrounded them.

Most of the teahcers there have phd, especially science. I had teacher w/ Phd from Princeton, MIT, brown, and USC so far.

Of course their expectations are huge and it forces u to study a lot. Some students claim that the tests that they give are on par w/ UCLA and USC. I can't comment on that b/c i never seen those tests.

I also work 30 hrs a week. Had a tough spring semester will find out just how tough tomorrow when i get my final grade.

Wow this sounds like my life diary. Sorry to bore u guys.

SMC is a liberal school but honestly what school in southern california isn't slightly tilted to the left? Oh and by the way there is a republican group on campus with strong support and most of the people who demonstrated on the day of the graduation were in no way affiliated with SMC or Santa Monica for that matter most were in a union which makes sense since that's where arnie is going to get the most vociferous opposition. I was invited to attend this "rally" a democratic group in los angeles who organizes things like this. I just think that the democratic party is being taken over by radicals who would much rather protest the war in a safe and comfortable environment than actually go somewhere where they can make a difference it really is cowardly and really makes me consider my political views. As far as I know now I am nonpartisan.
