SMC to UCLA History!

Hi I am a student at Santa Monica College
and I chose History as my major and Women's Studies for
to UCLA, UCB, UCI.
But I want to go to UCLA the most.
What are most lilkely my chances to get into UCLA?
Is history major from SMC to UCLA a tough competition?
how about women's studies? i heard i t is pretty average for smc to ucla but i do not know for sure
thank you so muchh! :)

oh and one last question,
is transfering out in 2 year and half really long?
thank you

If you really want to go to UCLA then check out SMC's honor program and see if you can get TAP certified. It makes your chances of acceptance much higher.

History has a 70% admit rate at UCLA. Keep it above a 3.5 and you have a very good chance of getting in. Make sure you do your pre-req's and complete IGETC. 2 1/2 years isn't that long.

Thank you guys! :)

is 3.5 like,, one C and one B and everything else A ?
So far, I have 3 As. and that all the courses I took,
SMC is competitive! very..

3 A's = 4 + 4 +4 = 12
1 B = 3
1 C = 2

=17/5 = 3.4

Pretty good gpa...history is impacted but it's not super selective like some majors.

Acceptance rate into the major is only 51.83% this year. Average GPA for admits is 3.6

I got lucky. Was admitted with 3.465. LOL

history and womans studies really easy to get in to UCLA!

If you really want to go to UCLA. Do your scholars honors transfer program. Have a GPA around 3.5 but a 3.6+ would be more desirable. complete all of your major prerequisites with A's and complete IGETC. And write a decent personal statement and you will have a pretty darn good shot at getting in.

oh wow congrats for you elcoHistory!
what major history course did you took at SMC?
so far i signed up to Stiles, history 1.
I have to take his11 and 12 but there are no good teachers.
please help me recommend what you took! :)

If you're at SMC there's a different program. If you meet at the Scholars coursework then you become TAG certified, no TAP, TAG. It guarantees your admissions into UCLA, the only time TAG doesn't work is when your applying as a Mass Comm. major. But if you do apply as a Mass Comm. major with TAG certification and you don't get in as a Mass Comm. major then they will look at your second major choice (something they almost always overlook, also assuming that you've already done the pre-reqs for the second major).

How do I know this? I go to SMC and was interested in joining the Scholars program. Sadly, I got rejected from UCLA this year (wasn't in TAG and am a Mass Comm. major). Eh whatevers, I got into UCB / USC (Annenberg) / UCSD / UCI. SO YOU CAN DO IT TOO!!!! Just try to keep it 3.5 plus and your set.

^^ There is no such thing as guaranteed admission to UCLA. TAG agreement is available in just about every UC but LA and Berkeley.

To the OP, just join the Scholars Program, get TAP certified by taking 15 units of honors courses and keep your GPA 3.5 and above and you'll be fine for UCLA.

jk_91 do u attend SMC? Because I specifically talked to the head counselor of the Scholars program and that is what she told me. SMC has a very selective course that has been pre-approved by the UCLA admissions board and the acceptance rate to UCLA is 100% for people who finish their pre-reqs etc.

Uh, that can't possibly be true because my brother has been at SMC the past two years, is TAP certified, completed all his prereqs and was still rejected by UCLA for biz econ with a 3.6.

I guarantee anyone here (or UCLA for that matter) will tell you there is absolutely no such thing as a guaranteed admission contract to UCLA.

cuz its not TAP its TAG... take it up with the counselor, its her word against urs.

seconded jk_91

there is no such thing as TAG for UCLA and UCB.

No guarantee to Cal or LA. I know several TAP students from my CC that didn't get in. Counselors tell us that our CC has a near 100% acceptance, only those that didn't get in was because they lied on their apps, and they keep telling everyone that we have a 100% acceptance rate to UCLA. I'm guessing they're just doing it to increase transfer students.

When I'm looking at 6 students that got rejected from LA, with TAP.
