SMC vs SBCC

Hi,

I'm an international student from Europe, and I'm planning on going to college in the US in 12 months or so, and I'm kinda twisted between Santa Monica College and Santa Barbara City College.

I kinda already picked out SMC, but now I'm reading all of a sudden more and more stories about the social life being completely crap, and the one in SBCC pretty awesome. But is this really true? I mean, SMC is in LA, so doesn't that have to be pretty amazing?

I'd love to hear some feedback from you guys. Thanks.

The community college forum could help more with this particular topic.

SMC is basically a commuter school. SBCC is right next to UCSB, so I think most students live in nearby apartments. That means that SBCC does have more of a social atmosphere.

Caltech is in LA. Is that amazing socially?

Most community colleges are pretty bad socially. I suppose SBCC would be a bit better in that regard

SBCC definitely has more of a residential campus kind of feel, since a lot of the students live in Isla Vista, a huge party down that is also heavily populated by UCSB students. SMC is in the middle of the city and I believe that many more students commute, thus providing less way for social life on campus.

Well, I wouldn’t necessarily need the social life to be happening on campus, just a social life in general would be nice.
