***Smith Class of 2022 Applicants Discussion***

Hello potential smithies!! I’m a current first year here at Smith and I can answer some general questions about life at Smith…I know this is a very stressful time but don’t worry everything will turn out okay!!!

So ED1 notification is likely when?

@sittinonmyhands Deb Shaver tweeted they were expected to go out Thursday 12/14 at 6 pm EST.

thank you to everyone who responded, i thought about it and decided it’s all in god’s hands at this point. my scores (though not dreadful) were definitely the weakest part of my application, so maybe it was for the best. i wish thursday would just come already!

The dean tweeted that they will be release on the 14th at 6pm. Her handle is @ deandebshaver
Good luck!!!

I applied for ED in Smith and it said that I will get notify on 14th. But what time usually?

Hi, eveyone! Did anyone here go for an alumna interview? If you did, how did it go? What kind of questions were you aksed? Do you have any tips to share?

i just got an email about how to retrieve admissions decisions, and in that email it said by 5PM EST they would be available… im stressing! lol

@crescendocries i had an alumna interview about two months ago. from my experience, the interview was fairly informal (in a coffee shop) and more of a conversation about both me as a student and Smith.
as for any advice, I’d say to relax! the purpose of the interview is to understand you as a person and if you would be a good fit, not an interrogation. try going more in-depth into any activities you feel are a significant part of your application

@crescendocries hi! i interviewed in mid-october with an alumna who is somewhat close to me. not too many people in north texas know about smith apparently…lol. nor are they interested - for both smith and mount holyoke i was the first person to request an interview in 4 years! my interviewer is extremely accomplished (went on to harvard and mit after smith, and is now a plastic surgeon who lives in a wealthy part of dallas) which was very intimidating and nervewracking but the interview was really relaxed and comfortable, held in a coffeeshop like others have mentioned. i was asked a lot about my own interests and background and why i am interested in smith, and i also asked a TON of questions about the school. it was a really great experience, especially for my first college interview! (it was about 2 hours long) as for tips, i would say to not overdress, don’t go all sunday-best but do look nice. i would recommend an outfit you would wear to school on a day where you want to look cute lol. also, there are interview tips on the smith website if you look, and i used smithbysmithies as a resource to prepare with as well. i wish you the best of luck and im sure its gonna go great!

Just an FYI, decisions will likely go up before 5 or 6 PM (whenever they said). Last year they went up a few hours early (they usually do from what I’ve heard). Deb will tweet when they’re up  good luck guys the wait is almost over!

@mer082 5PM 12/14 or 5PM today?

12/14! my bad

Where do we check for our admission decisions? Bannerweb or the Applicant Status Portal?

@rainonthe_horizon I think Bannerweb, but I’m not sure. The email sent out by the admissions office today says, “You will receive an email from the Office of Admission by 5:00pm (EST) with instructions about how to retrieve your admission decision.”

Thank you so much for the tips, guys! I hope I can do well in the interview.

I did an Interview at the very end of October and it went amazingly. It’s super chill and they just genuinely want to get to know you. My first and last questions were “why Smith?” just tap into your super mature intellectual and wear something cute without rips and you’ll be perfect! I hope it goes well!!

I never received an email saying how and when to check my admission status. Did anyone else not receive it?

wait never mind I found it

After a couple of stressful months, tomorrow we will finally know our decision. I haven’t been on this thread very long as a contributor but I can tell that everyone here is more than qualified to be given the opportunity to study at Smith (except maybe me, lol). Good luck to everyone! And remember, no matter what happens, you are amazing and will do amazing things in life! So, as we wait out these last couple of hours, just breathe and enjoy life.
