Okay awesome, thanks for answering! @mer082 @ava200 My whole high school philosophy is that I’m not taking the classes for the grades, I’m taking them to learn the subjects so obviously I may struggle with some more than others.
Ahhh this is me rn. Help
.
@gbraun Hey! Your stats are in the ballpark with mine, and our we have similar ECs, and I’m giving it a shot for RD! Smith is my dream school, I’ve toured and honestly it was incredible. Good luck!
Thanks! You too! (love the screen name btw) @savethebeess
@gbraun + everyone else that lurks as i once did:
in my opinion, you don’t need to stress /too/ much. there is still a marked emphasis on the essay and teacher recommendations to get you in, so it’s not all scores and achievements. make sure to do an interview and you should be fine. as for me, i was accepted with this:
9 aps (apush 5; ap euro 5; ap english lang 4; ap seminar 3)
3 honors
1 csu (university) class
4.23 weighted, 3.67 unweighted
sat: reading 690; math 620; essay 22 (did NOT send in scores bc i didn’t have my life together and forgot smh)
current class load: ap english lit, ap statistics, ap biology, ap research, ap art history, french 5-6, orchestra
10 years playing violin, wrote an unpublished historical-fiction novel i sent in to youngarts competition (110k words) with like another 50k i self-published online, 4 years summer volunteering at my local library, 3 years of volunteer ushering at my local symphony, in gsa and gender equality club 3 years with one year as president of zine club, i also collect victorian/edwardian photography and letters and try to reconnect them to historical societies/relatives.
my teacher recommendations i believe were very strong (i asked teachers i have a close relationship with and have seen the weird/passionate side of me) and my personal essay was one of my favorite things i’ve written about myself—and i’m a writer. my supplemental question was not my strongest, but for both, i wrote from the heart and i think that shown through. my interview was lovely as well and the hour flew by before i knew it; we spoke about our lives and i was able to express my love of the school while asking her all the questions i had about it. show your passion and your eagerness to learn, and be yourself in all of it. good luck!
are important are interviews to do? I know they’re not required but…
@clalaore Yes, interviews are very important, especially at Smith! They’re not required, but they’re highly recommended. They have such a heavy emphasis on interviews because they want to know you as a person instead of just a set of numbers
@Fangirl1999 i hadnt even thought about mentioning it, thanks for the tip! and yeah, my fingers are definitely crossed when it comes to aid haha ;
When will ED II applicants get decisions?
@livie07270 on deb’s twitter she said it is “tentatively scheduled to be released Jan 29.”
Did you guys have to fill put a second application after receiving your portal?
What did you guys write your supplement about? I personally loved the movie question. I said that I would be Elizabeth Bennet from Pride & Prejudice and my essay was so ridiculous it was all about my obsession with Jane Austen :)).
@sciencenerd123 I said I would be James Bond! I kind of just went with it lol.
@savethebeess interesting. I really enjoyed writing that essay. I just rolled with it and had fun. Banged it out pretty quickly. The admissions people are probably like “this girl is crazy” but hey I just really love Jane Austin OK? :))
@sciencenerd123 I said I wanted to be Daisy from Great Gatsby lol
@Ruthyyy Yikes. Lol wasn’t Daisy the one who ran that woman over?
Hi! I am an international student applying to Smith ED2! I just got an email from the admission office stating that the result of ED2 will be released on Jan 29th 5pm! I am soooooooo nervous. I sincerely hope I can get in
Hello, I am also an international applicant of Smith. I am very nervous, too…
I do not know if I want to receive an email from Smith on 1/29…
Anyway, I got an email that is about the date of decision from Smith financial service.
