I know this is super early but if there are any other juniors who know they’re going to apply ED to Smith Nov. 2018, then let’s connect!
Hi! I’m planning on applying to Smith class of '23 and am not sure whether to apply ED or RD yet. Definitely applying, though, since Smith is my top choice!
I’m a junior planing on applying ED!
@nyssabsterner @piaad12 What other colleges are you guys considering as backups? (or basically if you get deferred/rejected)
I don’t really have a definitive list yet, but my plan is to apply to a bunch of places, see where I get in, and go from there I guess! That’s why I’m hesitant to apply ED (that, plus I don’t know if I’ll get enough financial aid) but it seems like ED is less competitive (more people get accepted) than RD. Is this true?
@mathgeek19 I’m thinking about MHC, Clark, and Macalester. How about you?
@nyssabsterner I also heard ED was less competitive (something like 57% acceptance rate ED vs 36% RD?)
@piaad12 That’s exactly what I heard! I think I’m going to apply RD anyway but that definitely makes me nervous.
@nyssabsterner Yeah, I heard that you have about a 20% greater chance of getting in with ED, and I feel the same about the financial aid, but to me Smith is worth just about everything.
@piaad12 So far, I’m thinking of applying to RPI, Villanova, UMass, URI, and maybe a few others. I’m planning on visiting a couple of schools this spring/summer which should help me make my list more definitive.
Why don’t you consider other women’s colleges? Bryn Mawr has a great Math department, and all women’s colleges have great mentoring. Anyone looking at Macalaster should also look at St. Olaf’s, a really excellent under-rated small LAC. I can’t see being happy at Smith and also at UMass.
@OldbatesieDoc I stayed overnight at Barnard College, and while it’s an amazing school, it isn’t quite for me. I love UMass for it’s strong math department, inviting campus, and the Amherst area in general. My tastes are pretty varied, I’m drawn to certain aspects of colleges which cause me to like a wide range. I also have to consider affordability, which means that I may have to make some sacrifices in order to keep a balance.
I’m applying ED too!! I’m so excited. I’m just really hoping the financial aid is good. It’s such a beautiful campus!!!
Is there anyone from California applying ED?
I really like Smith, and I would like to apply ED. Should I apply ED1 or ED2? Are there any difference between the two in terms of acceptance rates and applicant pool?
@MaurineFan I believe the only differences are the due dates (ED 1 is November 15 but ED 2 is January 1) and that the acceptance rate tends to be slightly lower for ED2 (but barely). This causes you to find out later as well (ED1 gets their decision in December but ED2 doesn’t get it until February)
I am applying from California
Smith is definitely my top choice, and I hope to apply ED too!
Is everyone still planning on applying ED?
Applying ED1 from Florida
I’m EDing from China!
I’m applying ED1 from Connecticut (: Can’t believe we only have 4 weeks left! Anyone else doing an overnight this fall? @Lillla @Maddy428 @burntclaw
