Smith College

Hello! I am a junior from Upstate NY. I have a
91 GPA (low ninth grade grades bc mono), (Junior year was a 97 GPA)
740 Critical reading
500 Math
700 Writing
29 ACT
750 us subject
790 literature

planning on majoring in English!
any help would be useful

also, I have a non verbal learning disorder if that changes anything :expressionless:

I would suggest really hammering down on some math review and trying to take the SAT one more time to bring that score up bc 500 is not great. What kind of extracurriculars are you involved in? Also, make sure you mention your learning disorder on the common app!! If it helps, my GPA is 95.5 uw, 99.5 w, only really one strong extracurricular w 9 aps throughout high school, 710 on the math, 760 on the reading and 750 on the writing and I got in w the early admittance group and as a stride scholar. Good luck!! If you’re sure about smith I would suggest applying ed, their aid is pretty amazing

Smith College is SAT optional, so I do not think your score will affect your admission. Your grades are solid enough to get in. If you demonstrate your genuine interest, I feel that you have a great chance in getting in!

“I have a non verbal learning disorder if that changes anything”

Yes, it does. You need to make sure that your guidance counselor is aware of this (has proper documentation, details, knows that this information needs to be passed onto colleges, etc.) I can’t stress this enough.

With the exception of your math score, all your other test scores are exemplary and indicate that you would likely be an outstanding student of English at Smith. Your GPA is kind of low by their standards, but a) the trend is upward and b) your learning disorder is a mitigating factor. I think that you have a good chance of getting in, as long as you make sure that you do what I advised in the paragraph above.

And, of course, realize that a highly selective school such as Smith is not a sure thing for anyone, so make sure to apply to some similar schools and find at least one that is less selective to serve as a safety.

Good luck!

What are your ECs? It’s good that your grades have had an upward trend.
