Can I get into Smith with a 3.6?

My unweighted GPA is a 3.6, but the reason for my (in comparison to other applicants) lower GPA is somewhat do to mental health issues. I was hospitalized twice for short periods, but I don’t if disclosing this information would make me seem weak or unstable. My grades have also marginally improved since my freshman year as I’ve become happier, healthier, etc.

I’m leaning toward applying ED, but financial aid is also important to me. As far as the other parts of my application go, I think my ECs are substantial (I was the editor of my schools lit mag, have done ballet for 14 years, and cofounded a feminist club at my school.) I also have a family member on the alumni board if that counts for anything. It kind of just feels like I don’t stand a chance if I don’t apply ED but am screwed since I have no idea what aid package they’ll give me and I’m not, like, New England prep school rich. Anyway, if anyone has been in a similar situation, I would love to hear your thoughts. I know this post is kind of scatterbrained lol.

My D, now a sophomore at Smith, had a high school GPA under 3.6. It’s one of a number of factors that are considered with your application. How is your essay? Have you had an interview? How are your recommendations? They will also see that your grades have improved since your freshman year. As for applying ED, have you run the Net Price Calculator? It turned out to be very accurate for us. That information can help you as you decide whether to apply ED.
