SMITH vs. MCDONOUGH vs. STERN

I am trying to decide between the Smith Business School at the University of Maryland, McDonough at Georgetown, and Stern at NYU. Heres some background information:

-I plan to major in finance and international business, and get a MBA and be an entreprenuer.
I have received a 5k scholarship from UMD, but I get instate so regardless, the cost of attending UMD for all 4 years is equal to the cost of just one year at Gtown or NYU
-If I go to UMD, my parents buy me a car (:P) and pay for gradschool. If i go to gtown or NYU, i have to pay for my grad school etc, but this isn't really a deciding factor for me because I want to go to the school that provides me the best education and opens up the most opportunities to me
-I'm not interested in working on Wall Street, and wish to work in the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Area

Which school should I attend? Does prestige and the network at each school matter much?

Without the money factor, I?d say NYU stern >GT McDonough >UMCP Smith. Having said that, considering the cost & perks (o so clean o so shiny new bimmer's gonna get u some much needed attentions from fine dine brizzle), I'd say you should go to college park & study hard while getting some good internships around DC area. Work few years after Smith, and then go to one of top MBA schools, and then you're set.

Bottom Line : Get used to Hyattsville- Home of Diamond backs & Rico Suave

thanks for ur reply! but does the undergrad i go to affect types of jobs i get and mba programs i get into?

To a certain degree, yes your undergrad school does affect your future job & grad schools. But I'd say any difference in name brand, say between Stern & Smith or McDonough & Smith, can be easily compensated by your high GPA & your EC's.

Bottom Line: Among the three choices on your plate, Smith is the best. Go to UMCP but don't forget to "work hard & play hard"

bump bump bump

The reputation of your Grad school is a lot more important than that of your undergrad school. Maryland’s job placement is great in the DC area. The school is great in terms of giving internships too. Go to UMD. It’s a fun school too.
