Do students smoke in the dorms?

Does one need to live in the substance free dorm to avoid smoke?

Hey milkweed! I think it totally depends on the dorm you live in/ the people living there that year. I lived in both South (2nd floor) and German House and never had a problem. However, it was a big problem when I lived in Burton. One of my friends lived in Burton this past year and never had a problem. My senior year I was the RA of the substance free dorm and never had a problem (except for the occasional person walking through while high).

@milkweed You are not supposed to smoke inside any dormitories, or inside any building in town, actually. There is technically a 30 foot radius from every building that is supposed to be smoke free so that smoke will not be draw into a building’s ventilation system as well.

That said, there are students that do stand directly in front of doorways to smoke, especially when it’s snowing or raining, but if you’re planning on avoiding smoke, you should be fine pretty much anywhere on campus, dormitory or not.
