SMPA SMPA SMPA questions!! help!!!!

I posted the same question on the "ask a student" thread. I'm hoping this one would garner more attention from CC students currently at SMPA? I'm kind of new to CC, so I hope I'm dong this posting thing right. =.=

so here goes:

anyone have any idea whether SMPA is highly regarded among the media/commuications world or not?

in other words, how competitive is it compared to journalism programs in other schools such as Newhouse (Syracuse), College of Communications (BU), Medill (northwestern) etc?

im a prospective applicant who wants to major in journalism, so I was just wondering if i have to give up renowned journalism programs at other schools in order to study at the nation's capital.

I'm hoping the DC experience (including resources, internship opportunities, etc) will put me slightly ahead of other journalism graduates from other schools even if SMPA is not highly regarded. so i was just wondering what everyone else's opinion is on this?

GW is my first choice and i am planning to ED2. the only thing holding me back is the fact that SMPA might not be all that recognized.

thanks in advance!

All I know about SMPA is that it is a selective program that only accepts about 35-40 freshman and that these were some of the part-time internships available to SMPA students last semester: Senate Internship, CNN Capitol Hill Unit Internship, CQ Researcher Internship (Paid), The Democratic National Committee Internships ,The Globalist: Editorial Internships, Public Affairs Internship (Save the Children), Communications/Public Affairs Internship (The National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities), Journalism Internship (National Hibernian Digest), Media Internship (Youth Justice), Veterans Policy Internship (Paid). Students also have access through free tickets to programs such as "The Kalb Report-A Series of Forums on Journalism and Public Policy" which is produced before a live studio audience in the main ballroom of the National Press Club, located in the National Press Building, a short distance from GW.
