What is the acceptance rate to the smpa program for freshmen ? How many people are accepted?

It is hard to double major if you are in the program ? I want to at least finish my premed requirements while being in the program, is that unreasonable ?

How is the premed program ? Does it have a good reputation?

I don’t understand why you would want to be in SMPA if you are pre-med. SMPA is designed for those who want to go into communications. You don’t HAVE to major in a science or anything if you are pre-med, but you shouldn’t take up a spot in a competitive major that people who want that career are trying to get into.

ra: you know nothing about the school or the programs, right? I would suggest you look at what schools you got into and then make a more assertive decision. SMPA is not to take it lightly and it takes commitment to the program. Pretty much it is a marriage.
Also, visit the school, or read about it at least.

gwsenior: My future goal is to be a medical journalist, i have as much of an interest in journalism as i do in medicine and i wish to combine my two interests later on in life. Furthermore, I dont think it fair to assume that I am unfairly taking up a spot.

Sorry to be presumptive; it’s just that medical journalism isn’t something you hear everyday…when you said you were pre-med, I assumed you just thought that poli comm was interesting. Anyway, like Multitasker said though, SMPA is a big commitment, and it would probably be difficult to take on those classes while also fulfilling your pre-med requirements. Also, SMPA students have to write a thesis, so you would have to worry about writing a thesis at the same time that you were applying to med schools your senior year. I’d talk to a CCAS adviser and see what they recommend.

I don’t believe it’s possible to double major with a major in SMPA or Journalism and Mass Comm. At least, I know for ESIA students its not an option, I can only assume it’s the same for CCAS(?) but you should double check the GWU Bulletin, it will tell you there.
