Hi,
Just starting school. Should I get some cowboy boots? What kinds? I am new to Dallas, if you couldn't tell. I am a guy, by the way.

Are you from out of state? Not many people actually wear cowboy boots in Texas. The only people I recall who did wear boots were kids in FFA and this one Alaskan…

Boots are a bit to expensive for a college kid anyways. I recommend just wearing casual clothing. Be it flip-flops, a t-shirt or polo, and shorts.

If you were to get boots, however. I recommend one’s that aren’t so pointy or just plain oddly colored. Something simple, like this:
[Larry Mahan Men’s Kango Tobacco Smooth Ostrich Exotic Roper Western Boot | Cavender’s Boot City](Sites-Cavenders-Site)

Only if you plan to get a cowboy hat as well…

Girls look cute in cowboy boots. Boys look like trashy hicks.

If one must wear boots, I would recommend combat boots; they tend to send the message one means business, they are almost like moron repellent.

My D never wore cowboy boots during her 18 years here in TX. However, she just moved to DC to go to school and took her boots with her to wear with jeans. She figures that she might as well look the part because the minute she opens her mouth everyone will know where she is from.

Well, the answer is Yes. Especially the fraternity men.

P.S. Loving school, in case anyone was wondering.

Im from Texas. DO NOT under ANY circumstances get a cowboy hat. Unless you are running a ranch or for office, just resist the urge. There are some decent priced boots. I almost bought some Ariats but just never went back to get 'em. Just remember they take time to break in when they’re new. Go ahead and get a pair.

Cowboy boots can be very classy and make you look very distinguished. If you get ones that are too tacky or flashy, you will look really stupid if your not a country-blues artist.

Go for it.

Rattler, I am with you on the hat thing. Definately not doing that.

I’m from Oklahoma, and when you see a young person walking around in cowboy boots & a cowboy hat, you can tell they are trying too hard.

haha, please do not wear cowboy boots at SMU unless you are in a “southern” fraternity. everyone there will be wearing their ralph lauren polos, khaki shorts, and sperry’s. you could probably get away with it at TCU, and certainly at Tech
