SMU and TCU Opinions

I'm a high school senior from Birmingham, Alabama and SMU and TCU are high on my list of college choices. I have visited both and love both of the campuses but I want to hear other opinions on both schools because I am going back and forth between which I would rather go to! I'm not sure if I would like Ft Worth or Dallas more. Also, students at SMU: do people always dress up for class or do people wear tshirts sometimes? I'm planning on joining a sorority and I want to have the whole college experience. I think I want to study Spanish and Business. Thanks y'all!!

Texas Christian is underrated. I’ve heard that the TCU alumni network is surprisingly spread out (SoCal engineers, for example). A while back Southern Methodist had the reputation of being a landing pad for average kids from wealthy families. I knew two very hardworking Chicano kids whom were SMU alums. Both came from privileged backgrounds. One of them was a full-throttle party animal.

SMU: “Do people always dress up for class or do people wear tshirts sometimes?”
My son wears t-shirts and shorts practically all the time. He never dresses up unless he is interviewing or at a function.

Both TCU and SMU have a mix of rich kids, poor kids, privileged kids (whatever that means), and they both have partying just like any other college in this country. If you are interested, you can take a look at the common data set and you’ll see how many have received financial aid.

If you haven’t heard this yet: it is so true that you will get out of college what you put into it!

Just pick the school that FITS you the best and good luck!

Don’t “choose” your school yet. Apply to both, see where you get in and which gives you the best financial offer. And before your heart is set on both/either, run the Net Price Calculator and show the results to your parents to make sure they’re willing/able to pay that amount. (You’re only allowed $5,500 in federal loans as a freshman. Any other loan would require your parents.)
