Essays: Id say they were really good

Honestly I thought i had a super well rounded application with the most difficult courses at a highly regarded high school and tons of ECs and what not. Seriously thought id get a decent scholarship but when i found out i didnt get one at all I was kinda like what the **** smu?

Accepted in IL, stats posted earlier! This is a dream come true I got in AND got a Founders scholarship! Wasn’t expecting that :P

@ATexas hmmm your stats look pretty good, could it be the 29 ACT? It’s certainly not the gpa as mine is lower

Accepted with $11,000/year Cornerstone Scholarship. I’m in San Diego and the mail was so late today, but it finally came! Basic stats: 3.4 GPA, 30 comp ACT with Math:32/Science:33 applied to engineering. I also have my private pilot’s license as a hook.

@ATexas, I don’t understand why you didn’t get a scholarship. Are you sure? That envelope was a much smaller one inside the big red one. You might call to be sure there is not mistake, like it got left out by accident.

Texas: Yes, check the envelope. If u know the advisor, maybe call them. But if not, scholarships aren’t a given. You r good admit material but scholarship? Don’t know exactly what they r looking for but based upon others I have seen, 29 good again not Tops, GPA good, not as great as some others posted, and your EC in sports shows a lot of jumping around. Not committed to any one thing. Just trying to give u some feed back and anyway, it is an accomplishment just getting in! Congratulations!!
Maybe u can get a good Financial Aid package. Good luck!:)

I was accepted this morning, and was awarded the Second Century Scholarship, worth $80,000 over four years (20k a year, obviously). I am tremendously thrilled to have been offered this. Fingers crossed I’ll get in to the BBA Honors Program!!

Basic stats:
97/100 GPA (all Honors/Advanced/AP classes) at an extremely competitive, well-known private high school (non-ranking)
35 ACT
2280 SAT
Editor in Chief of school newspaper, Secretary of Business Club, STUCO
Over 200 hours community service
Great teacher rec, good counselor rec

Yeah the reason it seems like im jumping around with my ECs is because Ive been forced to switch highschools three times due to my dads job and one move being international and i explained that in my application. I dont know though I got $10,000 a year from northeastern so it seems weird that i didnt get anything from SMU. The highschool i attend is nationally recognized as one of the best but im thinking smu, no where near canada geographically and having few canadian applicants, does not know that.

Yeah im applying for financial aid but theres no way in hell im getting it since my family’s income is WAY above average. My parents arent easy about it though and they insist i get a scholarship or pay for part of my school so that I work my way up in life and it’s not just handed to me.

I was accepted today! I am thrilled because I’ve visited there about ten times, and I love the school. I was awarded the Cornerstone Scholarship worth 11,000 a year.

ACT: 29
GPA: 3.75
Rank: 3/72

I’m the president of the Executive Student Board, an Ambassador for my school, did an exchange program in Seoul, and volunteers at the Boys and Girls Club.

Sent from my DROID RAZR using CC

I got my letter today after school!!! SMU is my first choice and I was so nervous!
3.34 GPA
29 ACT
Lots of EC with leadership roles
Also switched high schools with an upward trend in grades an showed lots of interest in the school

I a soooooo happy!!!

ATexas: well u should be proud of yourself then! 3 different schools ! Very hard on a kid. Maybe u should communicate that to the advisor! Just coming from a parent , I know where yours r coming from. My son is exactly in the same boat. It appears on paper that we can pay for it,(not!) long story… Anyway , we r making him EARN it too! Believe me when I tell u, u will be better for it in the long run! If u r from Texas, u have god possibility for money from one of the state schools that DOESN’T have football! :)

ESP supposed to be GOOD possibility… Haha

Made an account just to post on this thread…

I got a Second Centurty Scholarship (20k a year) with 18/630, ACT 32, and 4 past AP exams and taking all AP now. I talked with an admission counselor in the engineering department (I am doing electrical) and she said that there is scholarship for each individual college completely seperate from what we have already recieved.

Anyone know anything else about the individual scholarships? Amounts? How often are they given?

exlawyer - When is the January EA engineering reception? Is it invitation only? Or, are all EA accepted students eligible to attend?

Anyone have an idea when we recieve individual colleges and other program stuff? I am interested in Honors and Hilltop, just want to have an idea…

Have people in so cal been getting anything? If I didnt receive anything does that mean I didnt get in? I heard they were only sending out acceptances and deferrals for now.

There is supposed to be a reception in January for Engineering. Engineering said more info is coming soon. Same for departmental scholarships.

I got in today!!! I was so excited!!!

@exlawyer, was the information about the engineering event in January in the big red envelope or did it come separately? I applied to engineering, but have not heard anything other than my acceptance to the university. Where did you hear about this engineering thing? Thanks.

So if we don’t receive a letter does that mean we’ve been rejected?

Does anyone know if you are accepted into the major you applied for if you are accepted to SMU? It did not say in the acceptance letter. I am assuming that is the case. Thanks
