SMU Early Decision for Fall 2022 Admission

How does that work? My daughter applied to Cox. Is it possible she would get admitted to the University but not to Cox? How does that work?

Yes, my son is in the same situation so we’ll see the language that comes out on 12/20 (or earlier). For Cox, one is admitted to the university first, and then another review is conducted to see how the business class is stacking up. I assume there is a limit to the acceptable class size and Cox knows its historical yield rates. It will admit, defer or deny.

For those that are denied to Cox but admitted to SMU, one has to decide how important it is to major in finance, accounting, marketing, etc. The vast majority still enroll in one of a myriad of different majors – Ops Research and Engineering Management, Economics, Markets and Culture, Statistical Science, etc. – and can minor in business. That’s the way it’s been done but we’ll see

What time does SMU typically release decisions during the day? If I remember correctly from my first one in 2019 it is around 7pm or so correct?

I still dont understand why certain schools wouldnt announce in advance a decision release date. I honestly dont understand the point on having students/parents guessing.

Students are already stressed out trying to meet application deadlines, doing essays, taking standardized tests, researching scholarships, and doing schoolwork.

Are you trolling us? LOL.

Tonight?

I was under the impression that we were finding out tonight at 7:00 pm. Am I wrong?? Ughhh and no we did not get an email. But with my oldest we just got an email to check portal bot an advance warning of when.

Don’t get hopes up. Two days ago SMU Admissions posted on Instagram that it would be “mid December” but @Lisbeth1 contacted them five days ago and they said “the 20th but it could change.” I think they’re trying to release before the 20th (yes, around 7 p.m.) but it could be as late as the 20th.

Two days ago, Tulane admissions posted on Twitter that they’re releasing on 12/20 at 4 p.m. That took quite a while to nail down but it was a week out.

Some publics set a date well in advance (e.g., Purdue is on 1/15). SMU releases scholarship award information in the offer letter so it’s possible that it takes extra time and coordination with the office of financial aid. I also wish it was a certain date and time but my kiddo isn’t in a rush to commit somewhere. If it’s SMU, there’s no mad rush for specific dorms or registration. Total financial aid packages come out a bit later and many people want to review that as well.

Well that stinks. I would think they would want to get them out before TCU does which is tomorrow at five pm. I’m still hoping that it will miraculously show up this evening. But if not then I guess we just wait. :crossed_fingers:t3::pray:t2:

Not all SMU scholarships are final for some time, i.e., Hunt and Presidential. Those still have a fair bit of review.

Nice thank you for keeping us all informed.

Thank you for sharing.

I know that this is going to sound really picky, but that is not mid-December. It’s only a difference of a few days, but as a prospective parent, the fact that they cannot adhere to their own published guidelines gives me serious pause. They don’t allow students to submit applications a few days late (and they shouldn’t). One shouldn’t show up a few minutes late for a job interview. This is a professional relationship, and missing deadlines sends up huge red flags for me. It’s not the delay itself that concerns me; it’s the fact that they don’t honor commitments, especially at a time when they should be wanting to put their best foot forward for prospective students.
