Hi everyone,
I am trying to decide between UT Dallas (Full tuition scholarship with 6000 stipend) or SMU (giving 42k a year) for pre med. My parents say that money is not a concern. I also hope to at least minor, if not major, in something business related when in college, however my long term goal is to go to medical school. Is there anyone who could give me some insight?Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
If you choose the less expensive one, will the leftover money be available for medical school?
Both will do just fine in preparing you for med school. Save the $.
@TrillM13 Don’t give up on free $$. UT Dallas (Full tuition scholarship with 6000 stipend), Merit or Need base? How is that possible? It feels like every UTD CC post is about receiving Full Ride/Tuition + stipend. Is anyone out there paying UTD tuitions, room & board out of your(parents) own pocket? Is UTD this generous to all students? if so, why?
This is for my DD for next year, could you please describe which scholarships were awarded for what type of accomplishment?
Thanks and Good luck,
@texaggie UTD is very generious for high stats kids
Here’s a link about their AES program make sure you scroll down and to see the % of students that get AES;

Here’s a link to their National Merit scholarship $101,000 for in state

They also have Terry Scholarships that are for low income students and the extremely competitive McDermott Scholarship. UTD has deep pockets to attrack top students.
Let me know if you any other questions. DS18 will be attending UTD on their National Merit Scholarship next year and was awarded their highest AES Award before National Merit was finnal and was a McDermott finalist but did not make cut for scholar.
@ucbalumnus I’m very fortunate in that my parents said they would pay for all my education.
@texaggie Both were merit, but for UT Dallas I received AES Honors. I wouldn’t say my stats were objectively high and I’m an out of state student so I was very surprised at their generosity. I just created this account and I am not sure how to PM, but if you can PM me first, I can send you all my stats if you would like.
Well, DD got a similar AES and she ended up at SMU with same merit ($42k year). UTD campus had ZERO character or vibe. She is studying business. For pre-med, not sure I would choose either if you can afford $100k plus per year.
