Snowboarding near Poughkeepsie?

Is there anywhere relatively near Vassar where students can go snowboarding for a weekend? Also, since Poughkeepsie seems to not offer much in terms of entertainment are there any nearby towns or cities worth checking out, not including NYC?

There's a relatively active outdoors club here at Vassar which goes on all sorts of weekday and weekend trips to different locations. I'm not 100% positive, but I believe that they've gone on several ski/snowboarding trips this year.

As for your question about other things to see in the surrounding area, aside from New York City... the area north of Poughkeepsie, Rhinebeck, is supposed to be quite lovely. I myself haven't been there; however, so don't know details as to what it offers.

For snowboarding, there are TONS of mountains up here. There's belleayre hunter, windham, plattekill...and the list probably goes on, but belleayre and hunter are the big ones. all four are probably about an hour and a half/two hours from poughkeepsie.
woodstock, saugerties, rhinebeck and new paltz are all worth checking out, they're all towns, with some good shops and restaurants and small entertainment venues, also the ski resorts do summer concert series. It's a lot of small town feel (not new england small town, though, there's a difference, it's more hippie small town).
however...to get anywhere you'll need a car, and that's just how it is.

Hi I live a half hour away and there is a ski and snowboard place called thunder ridge. It is not the best place but is good for a one day event and is very close to Vassar

My son went skiing/boarding at Butternut and said it was pretty decent
