Snowboard NYU

Alright, so im going to NYU next year as a transfer and I need my snowboarding fix during the winter. Where do you guys normally go and how to you get there (transportation)?

Have any of you decided to jib a rail outside of your apartment, or is there not enough snow just to do a couple of quick hits on the urban landscape?

after the huge blizard last winter some of the snow was piled up on smaller side streets. Lol jk.

I skied on hunter mountain, its upstate NY.

I was thinking the same thing....except less urban rails, more how the hell do i get to a mountain???

im planning on bringing my skis down sometime closer to the winter season. im down for some urban with you guys.

dont get run over by a taxi

Jib a taxi - thatd be fun. Ill try to ship my board out.. what gear do you guys use?

hunter mountain is pretty popular

There's quite a few places to snowboard/ski, expect to have to travel atleast 2 hours though.

I'm from Jersey, so I've been to a few places over the last two years since I've lived here. I both ski and snowboard, by the way:

Windham is generally considered one of the better ski areas within the area. Its bigger than most, but it also means more people. A lot more slopes though, so it evens out. It even offers shuttle service from the city, if you want to take one.

Other than that.. Hunter's OK, I guess. Its never been my favorite, but its good for the random weekends. Mountain Creeks is in Jersey and its only 1 1/2 hours away from NYC, but it tends to ge overcrowded with teenage snowboarders (who may or may not know how to properly board), and some of the slopes sometimes go... uphill. Avoid Mountain Creek if you can. Camelback is nice too, but its in PA, so I don't know how far you'd want to go during a weekend.

Oh, and for transportation-
Since I live here, I usually drive. But if you check out some of the websites (google it), a lot of the places have either shuttles, or directions by bus.. some amtrack. Or taxi, but that'd cost you a fortune.
Either that, or make friends with someone who lives in Jersey and just hitch a ride off of them.
