So can we say that UC Berkeley weights GPA way more than test scores and EC's?

I got in for engineering with a 1710 SAT, 19(something) SATII, 26 ACT, and extremely poor ECs. But, I I've only gotten 3 B's with 9 AP classes and a lot of honors.

I wasn't even asked for a questionnaire.

I was 99% sure that Berkeley was going to reject me.... but dang...

i’d say it values gpa and extra curriculars over test scores.
i still think they love strong extra curriculars. i mean what school doesn’t?

Can you post all of your details

I think it pretty much depends on the individual. You see a lot of impressive stats on SATs, SAT II, GPAs that got rejected…so I wouldn’t say that’s ALL of it. For freshmen applicants tho, of course they are much stricter for those things.
Congratulations on getting in!!! I’m pretty much on the same boat 99% they will deny me next month. -.-;;;

[:

My case is the opposite…

UC GPA: 4.04
SAT: 2340
SAT II: 790, 770

Congrats on getting in :]

I got rejected from engineering =<
-Well rounded student with a good gpa, okay SAT I and II, and strong ECs-

i disagree.
i had solid SAT & SAT II scores but a very… average gpa.

My friend with a UC GPA of 4.7 (ranked second out of a class of 440) and a SAT of 2150 was rejected by Berkeley. Admitted to UCLA and Harvey Mudd.

GPA is definitely the most important factor.

i dont think that you can say berkeley values academics and test scores more than ECs, i also dont think that you can say that berkeley looks more for academics as opposed to ucla looking for ECs. I was admitted to berkeley with a 3.9 gpa, no ap classes, and a 1700 sat score, and i was rejected from UCLA. I had strong EC’s, 3 sport varsity, captain, as well as a job to maintain. so all you future applicants with a weak GPA, keep your head up, write a killer essay, and dont doubt yourself, its not impossible.

my case was opposite too…
3.96 uc gpa. 3.6 unweighted.
2040 sat I 800, 740 sat II’s
decent ec’s
decent essays.

doubt it.

GPA was my weakest, but had excellent SAT scores and a handful of EC’s and got in.

I think it’s a person by person basis. Perhaps generally the first thing they look at GPA, but I don’t think it’s the heavyweight.

Someone said that Berkeley will take you if you shine in either the GPA + score factor or the ECs factor. This may be a better generalization.

I certainly got in out of pure GPA + test scores + advanced coursework. Most of my friends did too. But I can imagine the other factor existing.

My personal statements were a joke. I wrote about a freakin’ taco and a clutch single when I was in little league baseball.

lol

no joke, it HAS to be a holistic view.

2310 SAT
35 ACT
over a 4.2/4.3 something UC GPA, its about 4.66 W 3.9ish UW
ELC, CSF, NMF, APS, AMC10, math club, acadeca, track, football, started recycling program at my school, started philosophy club, leadership team, hundreds of service hours, etc etc

but for an assortment of reasons, like injury, or lack of teacher/moderator commitments, i only did a few of those things for more than 2 years.

my essays were ok, i thought, but honestly i didn’t spend a lot of time on them.

and then that leaves my asianness, which i would hope is not the reason i was rejected.

I don’t think gpa is the most important; i think it’s case by case basis. I had a 4.14 UC GPA 2200 SAT and 760 and 710 subject test. My test scores were definitely better. I was rejected from UCLA, but accepted to Berkeley.

I had a 4.1 GPA, 2120 SAT with 740 and 650 subject tests and was accepted. I do agree that Berkeley definitely employs a holistic approach similar to privates.

i’d say it was case by case as well. but my friend had decorated A’s and B’s and only a 1890 sat. got in. haha

I’d have to say its really holistic. I had a 4.12 gpa, 2100 SAT, 740, 710 SAT 2, president of two clubs, 400+ volunteer hours, and a job, got into neither.

It’s definitely holistic… I only had 1900 and 4.2 UC GPA and got into both UCLA and Berkeley… I had good essays and activities.
