So . . . Chances, Folks?

Here are my stats: Any thoughts?

36/12 ACT
5/490 Rank
4.43 Weighted GPA
3.9~ Unweighted GPA

Out of State (Illinois) Econ Major

Courseload: All Honours and AP offered at my school (4 APs junior year, 4 senior)

Extracurriculars:

Class President (9,10,11)
Debate Team (9,10 Captain 11)
Academic Team (Captain 9,10,11)
Band (9,10,11) First Chair Trombone, Band President
Thespians, NHS member (11)

Ron Paul Presidential Campaign Precinct Leader*

AMC 10/12 School Winner (9,10,11)
NMSQT Semifinalist

*I'm not quite sure if this would hurt me or help me. Would they write me off as a loony, or see the dedication and passion (albeit to a lost cause)?

At this point, I'm not really worried about my academics, but rather about my extracurriculars. They're really school-centric, and I don't know if that will affect my chances.

Also, what could I do this summer to improve my application? I'm trying to decide between getting an internship and doing a lot of political volunteering (and working a season of detasseling). Is the job/internship experience important or considered? Or would more volunteering be more helpful?

How did the Nation Honor Society become associated with actors?

oops, guess I forgot an ‘enter’ there.

I think that you’re off to a great start. Make sure your academics stay strong throughout your senior year by taking the most challenging course load possible. Also, dedicate all of your time this summer/next school year to an internship or something that you come off passionate about.

The Ron Paul thing would never hurt you, in fact, it will probably help you out.

Good luck!

Try the internship in a subject area that really interests you. Otherwise, do the volunteering in an area that’s important to you (no Ron Paul stuff).

Why haven’t you ventured beyond your HS activity-wise?

Ron Paul is the man. Revert to the gold standard!!!
