ambitious teenager:
"see i dont really care, as long as i get into med school.... i need start practicing neurosurgery as soon as possible, where i get my education is irrelevant, as long as i get one im fine.... its where i do my residency and practice that will get me famous... not the prestige of where i graduated."

i understand that you are very dedicated to obviously medicine and want to become a successful doctor, but as much as college is a preparation for the workforce later on in life, it is also an educating process. You mentioned the top 20 schools, which are also filled with many intellectually stimulated kids, who choose to learn for the sake of learning. I think you might enjoy college a little more with that type of mindset. Obviously a great school will get you places, but there are a variety of things you can learn beyond the narrow path to only neurosurgery.

i've already got a list of colleges, and i've done a rough draft for one of the common app essays because my guidance counselor made our whole grade do one :P haha.

i'll be gone for six weeks this summer, and then i'll be working at a local hospital after that. i have no idea how i'm supposed to start everything :x

I asked one of my teachers for a recommendation...
Other than that, I have brainstormed about my essays but every time I attempt to type them down they sound soooo stupid that I have to immediately delete it. :(
It's going to be a looong summer.

Since most applications aren't out yet, I haven't really done anything yet. I'm not going to use the common app unless I have to. I did start on an essay for Harvard, on "The topic of my choice." I'm assuming that'll be one of the prompts this year, too.

Other than trying to make up my mind about which colleges I should aplly at: Nothing.
I haven't even taken the SATs yet, because I originally thought I'd take a gap year, but now I've decided otherwise! again :/

I haven't started. I've only been narrowing my college list down to seven or eight. No way am I applying to more than ten, my schedule is crazy enough as it is. Maybe I'll get bored over the summer and start writing essays. :)

Back when I was a freshman, I always thought to myself, I can't wait until I apply to college! Now that it's around the corner, I want to be a freshman again. :P

Getting over finals and the end of the year right now (oh the nerves!). But afterward, that will probably be my summer. I don't have time during the year :)

Applications? When? Where? I don't even know where to get mine. and Redwood is right, Chill out people. Ten years from now you are going to look at this whole experience and probably laugh at yourself. So what, you didn't get into Stanford, Harvard, or wherever you want to go. Relax, you're life is not going to come to a screeching halt. There are more things to life. Go get a life, and stop worrying, maybe you should go outside, play football or something?

I can not thank my English teacher enough! Our final "project" was to complete a college application (it's due tomorrow). So, I'm pretty much finished. I just have to complete the app when it comes out in July and get recs next September, but other than that, I'm finished.

Just asked for a couple recs and have been researching colleges. IMO there's really no reason to start this early when there are only two schools that I can say with 100% certainty I'm applying to.

I submitted the pre-app for WUSTL. I already did an entire Common App but that's just because my guidance counselor made us do it for "practice." Now, I'm trying to fine-tune my Common App and get some of the other apps done so that once I start work in July and then school in September I don't have too much to worry about.

I've finished one 250 word essay, other than that, I'm just letting the topics I have roll around in my head...I'm not wasting my summer on 'em. I won't have time for apps until August, anyway...
