Hey Guys! I am writing my Common App essay now. I was wondering what theme for ur essay did you guys choose and what is ur topic for ur essay? Thanks!

I chose the theme that said a particular event that made me who I am today. My event was getting an A on my AP Literature essay, because without that event, I could not have become who I am. It taught me everything is achievable if I try. AP Lit used to be my worst subject, but I pulled through with a B+/A-. Extremely proud of that.

So What are your topics? And what are you writing about?

I’ve written several essays for the Common App prompts, and I’ll probably end up writing more before summer is over. I’m probably going to be using the first prompt, because I think it’s the most general.
I’ve written different essays about the following topics:
how being pickpocketed on a Chicago subway made me interested in philosophy
an experience I had in foster care when I was nine years old

Please don’t write an essay about a class. Adcoms can already see that you’re a hard worker by looking at your transcript. You should write about something that makes you unique.

The essay for UCs is kind of like that. I think I’m going to write about how I was bullied out of my middle school and constantly had to face racism and criticism at school to where I transferred to private school for high school.

I will talk about how I failed to be myself all through high school until second semester junior year. This might make an amazing essay if done well.

I’ll probably write about how I was partially responsible for my best friend’s career ending basketball injury. I don’t know if that would be good though.

That’s fine if you have a life-altering moment to work with, but if you don’t you shouldn’t try and act as if some smaller event was life-altering. It’s fine to write about small things without making them into a bigger deal than they were.
