Cause' I pretty much F***'d up freshman year. Do they completely disregard it? I've heard a lot about it. but I'm not 100% Sure if it's official. Everybody says it, but what's the trutH??

they don't really look unless you failed a class.. in that case u need to repeat the course(s).... they won't use freshie year for GPA purposes for sure :-)

Yeah, they look at freshmen year to see if you tried to take the hard course loads like Honors, but I believe that gpa of freshmen year is not calculated into your overall UC gpa.

I mean, if u take Calculus or any AP class durin frosh year, sure :)

They most likely do look at it. The reason is simple. Your transcript containes grades from freshmen year to your present year. So when they go to look at your grades on the transcript, freshmen year will be there too.

^^^^
I could be wrong, but I just asked a friend and she stated UC GPAs are self-reported. They don't see your transcript at all because they don't ask for it. All they see is the info reported on your application. They do have random checks to make sure people aren't lying but other than that, they shouldn't even see your freshman year.

thanks a lot guys. about the 'whatever you want them to see is on app' that's very nice to know haha.. thanks a bunch. if anybody else has any good info. please post. appreciated. thanks.

I just went to counsellor to check my GPA Average. Freshman year average brought my grades down to a 2.75.. yes.. 2.75. but my sophomore year is like. 3.7 or so average.. do i still have a chance for UC's? i hope they don't look at freshman too much.

IMO, UCs dont heavily scrutinize every class you did on frosh. year since they want your UC GPA (soph + junior)

Correct me if im wrong.

Yeah kevster. I heard something about that. SO there is actually a UC GPA meaning Soph + Junior? Thanks a lot. It's great to know.

in ur app, you put down all ur grades (including freshman). But in GPA calcuations, I dont think they look at it (they use 10th-11th gpa, using their a-g course list). Obviously, dont lie because they WILL request a final overall highschool transcript. If they find something wrong...yea...

yeah, i suppose "UC GPA" is the cumulative of SOPH + JUNIOR year grades. So do well on those 2 years and get the highest grades (not meaning you can slack off during frosh +sen. year. BTW, remember Midyear report grades.)

thanks guys. I just got my transcript copy.. 3.65+ average for soph year. but.. freshman year.. like.. 2.4 or something.. =/ still a chance?

protege:

Assuming you are a California resident,
UCB/UCLA: Reach
UCSD: Slight Reach
UCI/UCSB/UCD: Match
UCSC/UCR/UCM: Safe Match

Thanks guy. I am a resident, and I'm hoping for at least UCLA =] haha reach is okay. Thanks all
