So exactly how much can essays help?

So in a lot of posts I have read on here people have said that strong extracurriculars can make help make up for mediocre grades and/or test scores. The thing is I'm pretty happy with my grades and scores, but my activities aren't fantastic and I'm a little worried. However I've worked really hard on my essays and I was wondering how much essays can help make up for few extracurriculars

I don't know how a good essay will help you...but the way I see it, since they read a ton of applications a day, a good essay will mean the admissions officer will remember you. They're probably not going to remember a list of clubs, a GPA, or test scores. But an essay is a story and if it's a good story, the person will remember it.

What are you talking about? Looking at your stats, including ECs, all look great. Even with a mediocre essay, you'd be fine. But to answer your question, if your essay conveys that you'd be a good fit for their university, it can override just about everything else.
