So glad to almost be done with admissions forever

I am glad this is my last year of admissions agony.

I know I can't be alone in feeling very cynical about the efforts of schools to market themselves in order to increase their selectivity and yield ratings for US NEWS and other publications. "Image is Everything" in college choice these days and that makes me feel pretty sad.

There is nothing to do, I think, except talk to your senior kid and explain the facts but ultimately advertising, rankings and reputation are so compelling that it's hard to logic a kid out of wanting the "best" even if sometimes it's smoke and mirrors.

My sister, a professor at a highly ranked university, has seen the $$ signs in administrations eyes and the deleterious effect on the liberal arts. I am always sorry to hear about it and sorry my child will suffer a bit for it.

April can't come soon enough.

It has been a burden that was lifted after our youngest went off to college. My time is much more my own.

Haha… my kids joke that they are going to just have me handle the college search with their kids someday. Yours might do the same, so you might not be home free yet!

If I can raise my future kids to be as skeptical of everything they see as I am, going through college the admissions process shouldn’t be much of a problem.

On the other hand, by the time my future kids are college-aged tuition will probably be well over $100K. I’m not sure how to handle that.
