So happy my son chose Vanderbilt!

My son just began his freshman year at Vanderbilt. Just wanted everyone who is considering applying for next year that so far we have been extremely pleased. Communication was excellent throughout the summer. Their financial aide office was easy to work with and we never had to wait for answers to our questions. Move in last Saturday was seamless. They have a Move Crew for freshman and we didn't have to lift a single box. Since then they've kept them super busy with orientation and classes started today. In addition, they are really invested in making sure the freshman have a good experience and want to stick around after this year. Check out their website for the Class of 2016 picture (look on the Ingrams Commons page). Let me know if you have any questions.

Vandymom, I heard dorms at Vandy are super nice. Is that true? My daughter would like to go there. How difficult is the admission process? Did he apply ED o regular. Please let us know some stats and how it went for you.

The freshman have their own dorms and are required to live on campus. He’s in a double and the building is only 6 yrs old. His room is about 200 sq. ft. with bathrooms across the hall. It’s pretty nice but nothing fancy.

He applied regular decision. I don’t remember all of his stats but he had a 35 on the ACT (superscored). He did make a 34 on his first sitting though with a 36 in science and 35 in math. I don’t think he provided his SAT score.

He was involved in Model UN, mock trial and quiz bowl. He also did 100 plus volunteer hrs (required by his public school). He received several different departmental awards throughout high school. I’m sure I’m missing some stuff but that was off the top of my head.

we live in VA and have not visited the school (she didn’t but we did 6 years ago), is a school visit a must? She is planning to apply ED1 so we do not have much time.

I think it depends on your child. Mine wanted to wait until he was accepted before visiting, but he applied regular decision. After he was accepted we went to an open house and he decided to attend after that.
