So.... How are you PARENTS holding up?

Thanks for the info, pretty much what I thought.... After pushing Army troops for 21 years I've pretty much seen every type of sick call complaint you could think of, and some will try anything. The thing about this is they are looking for patterns in the Plebes, and if someone continues to ride an issue they will be singled out I'm sure. So I've always told my Plebe that there is a major difference between being sore and being injured.....be sure you know the difference or it may come back to haunt you.

Dad

Check out the AFA board...there is a thread by a dad about his son who is being sent home for a torn mcl. He can come back next year.

Several kids each year are sent home permanently from the CGA for red/green color blindness.

On the other hand I saw a girl at the shoulder board(acceptance day) ceremony on crutches with a cast. So I guess it depends on when, how, and how bad.

Glad to see I'm not the only one worrying about this stuff. With DD saying she had bursitus in both hips and off to the orthopedic doctor today... kind of compounds the worry

hey 2010_Dad - since your close, let me quickly switch gears and ask about some good mexican restaurants in the area. DD first request for PPW. ;)

2010_Dad: mum's the word on this one I'm afraid!

My daughter wrote yesterday that she had to miss PT in the morning and was sent to medical. Her boots cut up her heels so bad and she had open sores. Sounds painful, but I'm trying not to worry. I understand that major blisters, etc are part of the parcel and they keep a close eye on it. In fact I think they call it blister check and its done regularly.

Fergsonfire called for 3 minutes and sounded great - my guess is the GF was called first because he said if there was any way. he would like to have her come for PPW - she was there for I-Day and I was unable to make it, but his Dad and step Mom were there - I am feeling a little selfish in that I was hoping PPW would be just for the 2 of us :( He also said a lot of the younger kids are having a hard time, but he is doing his best to keep them motivated. When you send care packages make sure you send moleskin and an assortment of bandaids -

Love this group - keep the great info coming!!

fergismom,
Check out the Navy football schedule at www.navysports.com and maybe you can attend the Navy Stanford game in September or the Navy Air Force game in October. Both are away games for Navy and less that two hours by air from Seattle. Even if GF attends too, you will have a blast with the parents...some serious tailgating at these events... :)

Well, that sounds like it would hurt a bit.

She'll be OK. Not to worry. :)

Those wonderful "goldfish"! I had'nt sent anything that was not healthy until my son's 6th letter (amazing, since he hates to write) that said he was allowed a little more leeway with the food items.

My husband and I were blessed with a 20 minute phone call from him (seems that his COMPANY got extra time for something good that !they did) ! I'll take it anyway I can get it. He sounded great, a little hoarse, but upbeat.

He has volunteered to acolyte for chapel and actually joined th Drum & Bugle Corps ( even though he has never played an instrument LOL!) and he'll be playing the cymbals (got to send him ear plugs in the next care package).

He said that these activities really help him "survive" and I am so thankful for that.

Cannot wait for the next call... hope it's good also, but anyway it will be great just to hear his voice!

Oh, yeah! No experience necessary to join the Naval Academy Noisemakers Club. :D

I'm pretty happy- got another letter- with requests- and my ex husband sent me a scouting report on football- another coach down there watches fb practice everyday and says Bobby looks good. Anyone who goes to the games next year- look for the shirt marked DOYLE - and cheer him on. I just don't relish another 4 years of cringing when I see kids coming to tackle my son. Bobby's girlfriend got 4 additional letters- apparently he named his gun after her-not sure if thats an honor or what. Just counting the days till PPW.

Navy fans were very happy when your son committed to Navy. I hope all works out for him and wish you and your family the best. Plebes do get to play under Coach Johnson when they're ready. He's a great coach and certainly has the Navy family looking forward to the fall.

The plebes are still very enthusiastic and working hard. Defense worked as a unit, and worked on playing assignments for different offensive sets. Big Nate and the Samoan kid were alternating at noseguard. They are both very quick off the snap. Everyone looked good, and worked hard. The GA's and the other guys out there are doing a nice job with the workouts. The qb's, slots and receivers were running short patterns. They also looked good. I saw some great throws and some amazing catches.
The varsity came out around 5:15 after lifting, and did an unbelieveably intense, non-stop, grueling workout in the sand pit (a long running area filled with deep sand). It lasted 30 minutes, and afterwards I was talking to a player friend of mine and he said it was a relatively light conditioning workout for them. I am telling you, these guys are going to be in SUPERB condition come the first game.

Scott

Here's hoping that my friend's son, Ryan Burke, an OL from our town, will be one of Bobby's key blockers. Navy returns a bunch of starters and with this recruiting class the future sure looks bright.

Thank you so much for the post. For four years, I prayed the rosary while watching my son play. I paced, cringed, and ran down the field with each touchdown he made. I was also glad to hear about the line- as my son always said- if the line punches through and creates the holes- then the running is easy. I like to have "hogs" up front clearing the path. I was impressed with the coaching staff- Coach Johnson and his asst. coaches made it feel like a family. Also, in meeting the other members of the football, I was very impressed with the boys. They were gentlemen- without losing that "little boy" edge which the mother of boys love. Thanks again and if you watch any additional practices- please keep me posted.

Kathie Doyle

Mrs. Doyle:

My post looking back was somewhat confusing. I wrote the 1st paragraph; however, the 2nd and 3rd were written by Scott S. who is the Sports Information Director at Navy. He posts on the site: www.gomids.com which you can certainly read and post on. The site is for Navy Sports fans and is basically a "blog". www. Navysports.com is sort of the official Navy Sports site that I believe Scott keeps up. Either way, the USNA family is glad to have you and your family aboard. Navy suffered through some very tough seasons but Coach Johnson has the Mids expecting victory which is a breath of fresh air. I am hoping that your son is part of the team that not only beats Army but also beats the Irish. Check out the sites and you should be able to keep tabs with your son and his team a lil' bit closer.

Beating the Irish is ok, but Army? I sure hope not...

oh no!!! It's only JULY and already we are lining up for the December Game!!! Oh my goodness!!!

(anyway, with no offence to MOT, with Kathie's son on-board there is NO WAY Navy will EVER let Army reach 50!!! NO WAY!!! ;) )

All I know is that I keep sending cookies out- I keep wondering why? I am starting to think he is selling them or trading them to the cadres:) I am not much of a baker so they have to be somewhat desperate for anything homemade:) My mom sent her famous pumpkin chocolate chip ones which we used to feed to his high school football team- they were awesome and helped them win- so Army look out- Grandma Kozar's cookies will be sent before that game to be shared with the team. Go Navy Beat Army!

Beat Army, Beat Navy....whatever.

BEAT COAST GUARD!!!!

^^^ nice try LFWB!!!

Middiesmom- keep sending those cookies! No doubt the cadre will run those calories right out of them! ;)
