So.......

Has anyone installed the hot tub and sauna in their kid's now-empty room yet? :D

Hey Z, only 340 more days till I-day (if the Lord still loves me.) Then we're bustin' through the wall.

No, i didn't install the hot tub- still trying to clean through the mess. Unbelievalbe what I found in that kids room. BB holes in his closet, open bottles of shampoo under the sink- when I got to paint his bathroom- I gave up and just started painting over things. YUCK!!!! We took out an old couch the other day he had in there- every step we took more and more crumbs poured out.- in addition to the 3 blankets and two towels shoved in it. My big goal during PPW is to see a clean room- I won't believe it till I see it. I have to buy a small shop vac to vaccum- I am afraid what would happen to my vaccuum cleaner if I just used it.:)

middiesmom,

I'll forget all about this Army vs. Navy stuff (until late November) if I could get your mom's recipe. Pumpkin chocolate chip cookies will make my cadet very, very happy. Me, too.

I will get the recipe- for some reason these cookies stay moist for up to a week and are a hit with boys. My aunt started sending them to her three grandson who play on a college team in PA. Then my mom started making them- and my son would kill if anyone touched his special cookies. I finally stole one with the last batch and he's right- there is something about the combination of flavors and softness of the cookie that is delicious. I wanted to take a batch up for PPW but not sure how due to flying in from Florida the night before- might have to get creative:)

Middiesmom...

I have the plan. Since they sound like they will stay moist for a few days I recommend this. Bake four dozen or so and FEDEX them overnight to me here in Annapolis. And since I'm 15 minutes from the Yard I'll meet you there with the three dozen you sent me... ;)

WHAT??? There is a small handling fee of course.

Dad

Middiesmom - sounds like a recipe you should post here on CC for all of us. I would love to have it too. Pumpkin and chocolate chips...two of my favorites!

Maybe we should start a recipe thread.

Grand idea, WAMom!

I want that recipe too! Sounds awesome!!!! Since my daughter is a 2011 hopefull, I can use the next year ensuring I get it perfect by the time she is there!!!! (practice makes perfect, right?!).

The deal with the kids' room is to fix it up for guests so your mid/cadet can bring their friends home during leave. It's really the best of both worlds and then your mid/cadet won't miss their new friends so much! These new friends are like family...

Well the plebes had their first p'rade last night- and from first-hand reports they looked awesome! (Lots of pics already posted on dropshots.com)

Daughter and gf traveled down to see the thorpedo- he and company have this whole marching thing down pat! They said he looked great- he spotted them right away in the stands and had to bite his lip to keep from grinning ear to ear!

They have been issued their navy neck-a-chiefs (???official name???) and their new covers....and they even got guns.... and tango company is the smallest it has been in years! OO-RAH!!!!

It's a great Navy Day!!! :)

Navy2010 - Wow, thanks for the insight. It is so good to hear "first hand" info concerning our Plebes.

Please keep it coming and have a great day! :D

They've learned how to march at Navy?

:) :) :)

and they've given them guns??????!!!!!!!!

Just kidding of course, I'm sure they looked awesome!!!!

shogun,
I have a nagging question--why is Army so darn good at marching in formation??? Maybe it's because the mids spend more time in the classroom/library than on the parade field. Hey, my mid earned an expert marksmanship medal--of course that was before she practically lost her eyesight from spending so much time on the computer doing homework...

Midshipmen are issued rifles (sans firing pins, barrel plugged), not "guns".

USNA81

"why is Army so darn good at marching in formation"

Probably because in the field where the "rubber meets the road", when a soldier looks to his left and to his right, the soldier standing there is all he/she can truly rely on at that moment.

I imagine the Marines feel the same way. Actually, I think the best looking marching formations are the Marines. Probably for the same reasons I stated above.

Besides, at least until we beat Navy at football again (its coming soon sportsfans!!!!), Army might as well look better marching onto the field!!

I can't believe they did that to M1's (in my day) and M14's now. :(

At least my Jake has actually had some fun in the past shooting a functional M1! He loved it!

I have one of those on my wishlist. Just added the M14 to my collection. :D

Has anyone seen thre posts on times for phone calls this Sunday???? I would love to know when to expect the call.
