Can this help me to get into an Ivy League School (My dream schools are Upenn and Dartmouth) .
I have been practicing soccer for more than 12 years in the local club.
I also have very decent gpa (5.80 out of 6 ) and expect very good SAT results (2150 on SAT I ) and 800 Math II + 800 World History .
I know that getting into such schools is very hard, but how can my soccer abilities help me ?
Thank you

Your soccer skills will help you differentiate yourself from other applicants, but they won’t get you in by themselves. Take the standardized tests to see what you really get (instead of predicting). Your GPA, if from a competitive school, looks great.

I suggest contacting the soccer coaches at the school because they can put you on their “wish list” if they are interested. This “wish list” will get your application pulled and reviewed more carefully than it would otherwise.

FYI, American students often prepared DVDs to show their skills. I don’t know how that would work with an international student.

Well,I dont know how competitive my school is.Not many people apply to the USA .I think 2 or 3 students out of 80 .Most of the students at my high school prefer to study in Europe.
I was told that my grades matter and because all the schools in my country (Bulgaria) are equally unknown in the USA
This DVD thing is very good Idea.I took the SAT in June and I definitely expect 2100+ .I will retake in November, though

BTW,how do I contact the school coach ?Before or after I send my application ?How does he can see what I can ,what are my skills ?

Go on the school website, go to the Athletics page, and there will be a link for prospective athletes to complete. Do that right away. Only put in the scores you have, do not guess at what your future scores will be.
Look at the rosters of each school and see if that coach has other players from outside the US. Just know that there are thousands and thousands of very good soccer players with terrific grades, so you really need to get in touch with the coach to see if there’s interest for having you on the team.
A DVD or YouTube connection to a video of you playing would be helpful. How competent is your soccer club coach? Has he/she placed players at the college level? The coach can also contact the college coach on your behalf once there’s some interest expressed.
Good luck.

My purpose is have scores (on the SATs) that can allow me to get admitted without even mentioning my soccer skills. Then,my talent can be helpful but I dont want to depend on it :)

Actually, your soccer ability will weigh in quite a bit. If your scores are that high and you are truly a recruitable player (I don’t know what level you are playing at), it shouldn’t be that much of a problem. You should contact the coach ASAP…sophomore year is best for DI schools, although I suppose with the Ivies you can go a bit later. Fill out the recruiting questionairre on the school’s website and send in a personal resume. Do you have a link to an athlete profile of yourself? If so, send it along. A DVD of game highlights is also helpful. Many DI schools do travel out of the country to watch recruits play, so you could send along your game schedule if you think you are in the level that a coach would travel to watch.
