So I Cant Claim the AOC Credit At All?

i spoke the college about my 1098 t form and they said that since i dropped to half time in 2012, the full time charge from 2011 carried over to 2012

in 2011 the full time charge was 11000, in january 2012 i dropped to half time so the charge was only 6000. I received multiple bills for that also This happened all before classes started. The bursar told me the 11000 covered the 6000, even tho i never received a refund for it, and i still had to pay 6000 regardless.

so for the fall semester 2012, which i was charged for in august, they billed me 6300 dollars because i was part time.

now, on my 2013 1098 t form, in box 2 it says they billed me only 1400, and the grants were 2907. Now i have all the bills they sent me in 2012 for the 2 semesters they charged me. in 2012 i still had to pay 12000

is there anyway i could input the 12000 i paid on turbo tax? is there still a way for me to claim the aoc credit?

i looked at my bill again, i was paying the full time tution in 2012, then they charged me part time tuition. so i was paying 11,000 plus 6000, they credited me the 11000, so i was left with 6000.

i think they made a mistake on my 1098 t

The 1098T often will not agree with your own records because the college is using a different time period than you are. Look at your own records of what was paid and when. I had to do this just last night for Happykid.

If your records and the 1098T don’t agree, it is OK to use your own records. Just be careful to not claim any set of expenses more than once over the several years of your degree program.
