is there a way around this?

do i have to make a new common app account and start over?

i think so yes.

^^^NO, NO!!! Don’t make a new account

Make a different version!

yes, make a different version, the common app allows this.
Once you do, all of your information that you put into your original will be copied into the new version, and you can edit it. You have to reupload documents though.

This gets asked over and over. YES, you can make alternate versions. Go to the “Common Application” sub forum at the top of the admissions forum. Use the search function to look for “Alternate Versions.”

how to make a different version?

yes, it is all over the common app thread. Good Luck!

pull up the common ap instructions, and they will tell you how to do it. One can have up to 10 versions I think. Pretty easy to do. You can copy over the first version (which i presume you’ve already submitted), and all fields will become editable in the new version. Only chore is that any uploaded attachments need to be uploaded again to the new version.

This should help you: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/common-application/582768-can-i-send-different-personal-statements-using-common-app-diff-colleges-how.html?highlight=diff+personal+statements

Making different version isn’t too hard. I already have five – God knows why I keep making different versions just for tiny changes.

Creating a new version is very easy. I’m going from memory, but here’s how you do it:

Log into your common app account. You should be directed to the current version with the schools you have applied to showing. In the upper right hand corner you will see Version 1 or original.

Click on the Common Application box in the left side menu boxes. A screen appears that shows the version you are using should appear - in a table like graphic. It will have a replicate link in the box next to that version.

Click replicate & it will create a new Common Application version to use.

Select the school you want to include in this version, using the find school menu box on left. You can move pending school apps into the new version if you want, providing they have not been submitted.

All the original info you saved will move over to the new version. You can move page by page and edit info. The short answer info is kept. If you want to change it, just delete it & copy-paste new info into the scroll box.

Essay & Additional information will need to be re-uploaded again. When you create a new version it does not keep this info.

You can create up to 10 versions. You can switch between versions by pulling down the menu in the upper right corner block. Once you create a second version, you will get a pull down menu to select from.

I used this for several schools that I wanted to send different essays & additional info to & I had no problems. There are instructions on the Common Application site to refer to, but I found them a little cumbersome. It took me a while to create a second version. Upon completion, I realized there was an easier way.

I hope this helps!
