I am a freshman at UMD. So basically because of an immunization dilemma thing, I ended up registering for my spring semester late.
Therefore, instead of getting the classes with the good teachers, for most of my classes, I got the professors that give half as many As. (Theres a statistics website online)
So we're talking classes with 12% As (my Organic Chemistry class)
Im kind of scared. Should I just try my hardest? Im going to try and prepare by reading a book on Organic Chemistry basics but thats about it

Of course you should just try your hardest… what else is there to do?

Just because they seem to be the worst teachers, doesn’t mean they will be the worst teachers for you. You can’t just base your time in a class on statistics. Sometimes you just have to take a class. If you come to classes and learn all you can, maybe do some studying before-hand, and do all your work you may not come out with exactly an A, but pretty darn close. Statistics are cool, but some times you just have to leave them in the dust. I’m sure you can pass the class, As aren’t everything!

Sometimes being with the bad professor isnt bad. I have an example. I was going to have a below average ochem teacher. Due to some circumstances she could not teach and I ended up getting the best ochem teacher there is at the school. His original class was full when i signed up but now he was teaching two lectures. In his other lecture (the one that was full when i signed up) the average on the tests were 5% higher than my lecture. What happened was all the really dedicated, smart kids rushed to grab him. Everybody else took the class with whatever professors were left. What i am saying is that the super smart kids always try to get the best professors while most people just take whatever fits into their schedule. So you may have a weaker teacher but you may also have a weaker class.

12% As isn’t that bad at all…especially for O-chem. Your school must have grade inflation compared to mine!

Remember, just because their grading scale is harsher DOES NOT mean that the professors are worse. Definitely try your best.

If you can understand what they’re saying, I’d say you made off pretty good.

just do your best. i’ve gotten a few professors who were supposedly not great. worked out fine for me, i even wanted those professors for other courses. it’s different for everyone.

How do you know they’re the hardest? You haven’t even had them yet! Usually when people are whining about how they have the hardest professor they’re just not used to/wanting to do actual work and study hard. Of course you have to try your hardest, that’s just what you do in college!
