So I just found ou that Ohio State has one...

the "early acceptance" program, that lets a select number of national merit finalists get accepted into med school as a senior.
anyone know anything about it? is it any good? how competetive is it?

Whoa- where did you hear that?
I looked online and didn't get anything. Are you sure it exists?

it's on the med school website...

Early Admission Pathway

I just checked the program out and it seemed very interesting, however I found it weird that you are not guarenteed a spot in their med school (which is excellent btw) until your junior year! You might as well preform well on you MCATs and enter the normal way. This almost defeats the purpose of a BA/MD process which invests in students EARLY in their academic careers. You are better off going somewhere else for you undergrad and taking the normal route in my opinion (all though ohio state isnt bad for undergrad lol)

it says "conditional acceptance"... which is the same as all the others do. no one's gonna let you move on to med school if you have crappy college grades.
all the bs/md's have a minimum gpa you need to keep to get your spot.

This is NOT the same thing as a BS/MD program. All it is, is an opportunity for students who meet the requirements to apply to medical school early and get an early acceptance. There is no guarantee whatsoever. Even if you have a 4.0, you still might not get accepted. Most BS/MD program give you a GUARANTEED admittance into medical school (straight out of HS) provided you meet a minimum GPA. If you meet this GPA, you are allowed to matriculate with no issue. In this program, like I mentioned earlier, there is no guarantee, regardless of your stats. There are more programs like this in the nation. They are not BS/MD programs. Toledo MedStart is an example.

i guess i misunderstood... sorry 'bout that...

^There's no need to apologize. You didn't do anything wrong. :)

hey thanks for bringing it up, it helps other high school students clarify and learn about this kind of stuff, i kno i got something out of this thread
