So, I'm kinda doomed..

I'm failing AP Economics. There are 15 days of the marking period left, and I've been getting continuous Bs/Cs/Ds on tests, quizzes, and EVEN homework!!! My grade just keeps going down with every new piece of work.

Sure, I start out every marking period with Bs and Cs in my classes and still miraculously end up getting As.
But for this class, I just don't know what to do! I study my butt off thinking I'm more than prepared for tests/quizzes and I understand everything.. I THINK I understand stuff, but I don't.

I go in for help with my teacher eveeeery day and don't get me wrong, she's an awesome teacher and she has taught at my school for years. But economics just doesn't go through my head, no matter how many times she explains things to me. Another problem is I'm NOT an auditory learner, and my teacher is a very auditory teacher. I can't learn by listening no matter how hard I try, so I kind of space out in class and try to actually understand concepts when I get home by reading my textbook for the class. In fact, this method has worked fantastically in ALL my classes except for AP Economics.

I don't know what I should do.. at this rate, I'll be lucky to get a C in the class. I'm expecting 2 other Bs or Cs because I'm epically failing this year (just can't get myself motivated enough to care about school and my study habits suck).
I'm definitely not looking at Harvard or anything, but I AM looking at top liberal arts colleges (Williams, Middlebury, Amherst). I'd say I'm pretty well rounded with extracurricular activities and test scores and such, but how much will it hurt my transcript to drop the class? It's going to show up as a W on my report card, but I'd personally rather suffer that than have to get a C or even a D.

What do you guys think? Should I just drop the class? I just hope it's not going to prevent me from getting into a good college..

what is the rest of your schedule?

Honors French, Honors Chemistry, Honors Precalculus, Honors English, AP Lit, AP World History

go ahead and drop it, you’re fine, seriously. no college is going to belike OMG HE DIDNT TAKE ECONOMICS! (as long as you’ve already competed the gov/econ req. to graduate)

are you a senior?

I’m a junior. Does that change your advice?

Lol this story reminds me of myself in Honors biology. Absolutely nothing clicked with me. My teacher was nice, but her teaching style just didn’t complement my learning.
If you really can’t improve your grade, then I’d suggest dropping it. Just do whatever you want, though.

I’m doomed, too…

In what, Zapz? AP Econ or just school in general? :/

^Aww, I would just suggest you drop it. It seems like a lot of people on here hate AP Economics. (That’s just an observation.) I’m only a week into it so I can’t say much lol

Umm, honors English AND AP Lit? And you’re a junior? AP Lit is a senior class, and even if you were taking AP Lit why would you be taking honors English? Plus juniors usually take APUSH instead of AP World

^Thanks!

Ah crap, I found out that if I decide to withdraw now, my grade at time of withdrawal will show up on my transcript. That means it’ll show a C…hopefully maybe I can bring it up to at least a B (like an 80% haha) and then drop it.

My teacher started talking about the AP exam today, and that kind of gave me a wake up call that I’m probably not going to survive in this class until then. It’s not worth it if I’m going to fail the exam anyway, right?

@pyroza- I’m taking 2 English classes this year because I’m graduating a year early. And things work differently at each school, because at my school, AP World History is a junior class.

Aww, that’s a bummer:/ However, if you feel like you’re going to fail, dropping it does seem ideal. Best of luck!:)

Are you sure an actual grade will show? My kids’ high school either indicates “WP” or “WF”- an indicator for a “withdrew passing” or “withdrew failing” grade in the the course at the time the student exits the class.

Yeah, I’m sure. That’s school policy. However, it won’t be computed into my transcript GPA at least.

It would have changed my advice if you werent graduating a year early. my advice is the same… but why the hell would it show on your trascript? thats the most ridiculous thing ive heard. Don’t you have a leeway period? Anyway… try to get it up a bit and then drop if you still want… thats what i would do.
