With the financial aid offers coming out...is that it? Or will there be other departmental or other stuff trickling in.

We got so much less than I expected. :(

The only thing that’s left to wait for is departmental scholarships (I think). Trust me, you aren’t the only one feeling this way.

i don’t expect a dime from a&m.

what made you think you would get more??

I think it is a shock when other schools come back with at least some money and then you end up getting nothing here.

I am thrilled for what A&M has offered me, but still in comparison to many of my other offers, it feels like a bit of a let down. UT’s engineering department alone is giving more scholarship dollars to guys from my school with similar stats as me (9k a year), than A&M has offered me through honor’s college and departments etc combined. And UT was supposed to be the one who is notorious for no merit aid.

I do not regret not applying for scholarships to UT because that was not the place I wanted to be, but I just had high expectations from A&M. Unfortunately, expectations are always destined to fail in someway or another.

Dude, you’re not going to get anything unless you have excruciating reasons to get something.

I think the issue is like what a previous poster stated…you look at EVERY other school, and for an XYZ test score you get this much money, for an ABC test score you get this amount and on and on. While other public schools were automatically giving us up to half scholarships,(varied among schools) A&M awarded virtually none. I guess I was wrongly expecting something comparable, am just a bit shocked by it all. AggieEngineer, you pretty much summed up my feelings.

DS is going to be an Education major, and they didn’t even list any of the teaching grants. This makes me think…ie hope, that maybe they aren’t done with him yet. We did do a “going to file” on the FAFSA, with the final filing correction this past week…do they wait until they get the final numbers before it’s all said and done?

All that were listed were the Top10%, and an Aggie Grant along with loans, and our hilariously large EFC.

I guess we will wait and see…

Rolling: I did get something, and I think you failed to realize that I am THRILLED to have got anything at all merit wise. I’m just saying that it is easy for most people to sympathize with others like aggiemomma14. I know a ton of people at my school going to TAMU that will pay the full price and not think twice. Are they necessarily thrilled about having no financial help? No. But are they going anyways, yes.

Aggiengineer: Interesting that other engineering students at your school are getting offered better $ from UT. This has been the opposite at my son’s school. While he has a full-ride, of the 4 friends he knows who are doing A&M engineering, they all got 8 or 9K from A&M; however, they got next to nothing from UT. They are all top students. Hopefully, you will get more merit $ when the departmental awards come out soon. Keep your fingers crossed. Pluto

8-9k a year or total?

just way your options at the end of the month

yeah. my DD got $$ from every one of her other schools. nothing from a&m.

but i didn’t expect anything from a&m.

you can send them your other offers and see if that might make them come up with something. it is worth a try.

aggieEngineer…that is per year and not total. Pluto

do like what Mike said, it cant hurt

wow, that is good pluto. I have got one scholarship total that is 2500 a year. Were these people national merit?

AggieEngineer: No. They are not National Merit students; however, they are top students with good scores. If A&M wants a student enough, they will try and match or exceed a competing offer. In my son’s case, they more than matched the other school’s offer. I do know that A&M is in the habit of presenting counter-offers to certain students. One of son’s friends who is not a NMF got merit $ from A&M but it wasn’t that much. He contacted the school and urged them to consider giving him additional $ because he really wanted to attend. This student is one of those I mentioned that is now getting the 8K per year. If your grades, test scores, and class ranking put you well above the 75th percentile, and you have a better offe in writing, it is worth the effort to ask for more scholarship $. All they can do is say no. Nothing ventured, nothing gained! Happy Easter to all! :)

Interesting how they ended up getting them. I guess I just didn’t meet the standards which is both hard to believe and sad considering how hard I have worked to get here. Time to go do well freshman year and see how things look after that. I’m going to attend regardless since money is not necessarily a huge issue (however anything helps). I’m just ready to move on and forget about this process.

Could some of the scholarships have a financial need component? We were shocked to get ds’s offer yesterday and, in addition to some scholarships, A&M met all need under the Aggie Assurance program. YEA! But even one of the scholarships indicated that it’s both merit- and need-based.
