does anyone know how much scholarship they will be getting from a&m? have you guys received any sort of letter saying how much they'd get? thanks!

I already got my letter, I don’t know if other people did though. It might be online.

so you specifically got a letter from a&m saying that they’d they give you this much scholarship?

Yeah, but it was automatic if I applied. So that might not be the case for scholarships that are not automatic.

D got her letter a couple of weeks ago. But it showed up on AIS first. They were honors and univeristy ones though. I don’t know if dept. ones have come out yet.

Yeah I got my letter at the beginning of March. I’m getting this strange feeling that departmentals are going to come out verrry soon because the financial aid portal on Howdy is down for more maintenance.

not to be invasive or anything but jrt336 how much did you get?
my son is thinking about applying there next year and i was wondering of the scholarship offers are significant.

If you are NMF then it is substantial, otherwise no.

So the school is not generous with need based financial aid?

Marzbarz-Like aggieengineer said, if you’re not a National Merit Finalist, don’t expect too much.

That’s very disappointing to hear.

Nickel: If you are asking about need based financial aid, that is totally different than what some like Aggiengineering are talking about. They are talking about MERIT money. Scholarships based on class ranking, test scores, and National Merit status. Need based $ has nothing to do with merit money. If according to your FAFSA, you have a high amount of need then you will be awarded need-based aid. A&M is VERY generous to top students and to NM Finalists. S. received full-ride+(books, study abroad, etc.). Hope that helps. :)

Aaah, I get you. Oh, but it’s not for me. I’m wondering about my sister. She won’t be able to go if she doesn’t get enough aid. She was not a NMF. Since I’m already in college my parents worry about the financial aid a lot. They can’t pay for the two of us.

a&m is not the place to look for a lot of merit $$ unless you are tippy top, unfortunately.

No, they are generous to NMF and that’s about it when it comes to merit aid. To give you a picture, I am 5/1166 at my high school, have good test scores, high gpa, ton of ec’s and got a total of 10k which is nothing in comparison to other school’s offers. It is frustrating. So if you have the time to put a good effort into PSAT prep or anything like that, do it. That would be my advice to someone going through the high school process.

Aggiengineer: Don’t give up hope. All those departmental scholarships aren’t out yet. Hey, if it helps, #3 at son’s school (also engineering but not a NMF) only got about 2k from UT. It is my understanding that they are less generous than A&M. :)

So the end of the month came and went. Did anyone get a departmental scholarship?

I don’t know if this applies to everyone, but the departmental petroleum eng. scholarships I have been receiving were credited to my account a week before the semester started, so don’t lose hope yet.

It takes some time.

If you do not mind me asking, how substantial are the departmental scholarships in comparison to the honor’s college scholarships?

i think last year lots of the engineer kids got 6K - so 1.5K per year.
