I'm taking Physics 8A next semester with Fajans and the webcast site says that it will only be in audio, not video. It's going to be impossible to make one of the days due to work and I was told by someone in the physics department that the webcast will show "the blackboard in primentel and power point slides if the prof uses them" before I signed up for the class.

I don't think I will be able to get as much out of the lectures by just listening to the audio for a class like physics where a lot of writing and equations are necessary. Has anyone had any experience with this type of situation? I can't switch into the other physics lecture offered...will just the audio be okay?

unfortunately, i don’t think Fajans has video webcast lectures from another year, only audiocasts. however, you’re in luck. the ASUC is taking notes for his class this year.

if you’re wondering if it’s worth it (costs around $40 for the semester), the answer is yes. they do very good jobs.

Mech, ASUC notes look good, thanks for the link. But I’m still concerned about solving example problems from class. Will the notes cover that also or will I have to rely only on the audiocast to follow along?

mech:if we order the 8a notes later in the semester can we still get the notes from lectures starting the first day or only starting the day we purchase them?

i want the notes but i dont want to buy them until i am sure i will not drop it due to taking it with bio 1a/1al

and finally, is it really cheaper to buy them earlier as they say on the website or is that something they just say to make you purchase from them right away?

I used the ASUC lecture notes last semester for the first time for my Econ 100B class, and the notes were filled with mistakes. I counted an average of at least one error in each lecture note. Hopefully my experience was just an anomaly.

ASUC physics notes are steeped in typos and calculation errors. Only use them if you have the patience to work through someone else’s math mistakes and general incompetence. You would imagine that with spelling/grammar check programs and an editor to look over the notes, it would be legible most of the time, but this was hardly the case when I ordered the physics ASUC notes.
