Are there any colleges out there that will accept a kid with a 3.4 uw/3.6 w???

My counselor makes me feel like I can't get in anywhere :(

Are there any colleges out there that will accept a kid with a 3.4 uw/3.6 w???

My counselor makes me feel like I can't get in anywhere :(

You can get in about 3920 of the 4000 colleges out there.

what does "not anywhere" mean? Where are you thinking of?

Plenty of schools are happy go get the 3.5 students. My DD had about that GPA when she graduated last year. She is now attending a small private college (and actually received a reasonable scholarship) and is loving it. Don't let the counsler effect your belief in yourself. they could just be having a bad day (or maybe a bad life :-).

If this is something you really want, are willing to put the effort into it and are realistic with your wishes and expectations. You will be fine.

The fact that you are on this site looking for direction shows that you care and are willing to invest the time to get help and plan for your future.

That shows me more than some of the folks who come on here only to brag on themselves. And a whole lot more than the general HS populace who wouldn't know to even look for a site like this.

Keep your head up and one day you will get the opportunity to go back to visit the counsler and show them how wrong they were.

What are your SAT scores?

I had a 3.4 uw and got a full ride at a "top tier" (US News) university.

Well tell her my kid is already accepted at a US News top tier school with a 3.35, please do not ever let a counselor determine your life path. Find a teacher, trusted aduly, parent or the fine folks here to guide you along because you have what it takes and will get into a college somewhere that will be what is right for you. That counselor should look for a new job.

Yeah seriously there's this counselor at my school who told my friend (she's a freshman in college now) who has similar stats as you that she could not get in to any of the schools she applied to (UVM, URI, BU, RPI and others) but she got into all of them. Go for it!

Oh my gosh, thank you guys all so much! You have made me feel SOOOO much better. :)

I literally smiled when I read all of your posts. I really appreciate all the positive comments!!!

PS. Since someone asked, my SAT score is an 1860, and my ACT is a 28. (My counselor wasn't too impressed with these either...haha).

Anyway, thanks again you guys! :)

College!!!

As the others have said, please do not be discouraged by your counselor. My D has about the same stats as you - 3.3 GPA and 28 ACT. She has already been ACCEPTED to ASU, LSU and WVU. All were considered safeties for her. She is hopefull that she will be accepted to University of Colorado - Boulder and has applications in at schools that are more of a reach - Clemson, Virginia Tech, Penn State.

Good luck. I'm sure you will find a great school!

My son's private GC told him he would be a super high reach for most of the schools he applied to. He got in to all of them. Apply to some safeties you like and then go for the reaches as well. Good luck.
