<p>I was suspended for three days. I know I cant justify it and whats done is done, but I want to explain the situation. My classmate and I were chatting with my counselor about how an interview of mine went, and I asked if it was possible to change my gym class (which was the next semester) because I heard my classmates were all in another gym class. My counselor told me that she believed the class I was looking to transfer into was already full. She was then called to a meeting and left the room. I was waiting for my classmate, who was there leaving a note for her own counselor, and I saw that my counselors computer was in front of me with my schedule open on the screen. Without realizing the full extent of my actions, I leaned over and clicked on the gym class I wanted to change because I wanted to see if it was actually full. I canceled it and tried to add the new class, but it was indeed already filled, so I decided to just let it go and leave. </p>
<p>A week later I am called down to the principle's office and suspended. Apparently when I had tried to add a new class, an email was sent to them and they traced it back to me, using my counselor's laptop. </p>
<p>My question is, should I not even bother to apply to the top 10 schools I was planning on applying to? I've already applied EA to two (top 5) schools, and when they learn of this will I be rescinded or rejected? I have been losing a lot of sleep due to this and sincerely feel horrible about what I have done, but I just want to know if I send in a letter of explanation to colleges, is there a chance they will forgive the action? I have a 2380 SAT and 600 hours of community service, and I've won multiple awards. This is the first time I have ever been disciplined for anything at my high school.</p>
<p>It’s not as big of a deal as you are making it out to be. Colleges will see why you got suspended. Just make sure that you explain your situation on the common app. Maybe you can even write an essay about how this experience changed you. That might be a stretch though.</p>
<p>It won’t ruin everything- it might bring your chances down at some schools but if you take responsibility for your actions and try to take something positive out of the experience, many colleges will still want to accept you. Since you have this issue you’ll want to be more careful than most with making sure you have safeties, but I don’t think that a stupid one-time mistake will ruin your college chances.</p>
<p>Your future isn’t ruined. Even if you don’t get into the top colleges because of this, you can still have a great career coming out of a state school or even top 50 university.</p>
<p>I’m assuming you get good grades too, and if this is your first offense and you are not known for causing trouble, go to your counselor and ask him to not report it on the transcript. I’m sure your counselor will understand you made a mistake, just man up, take the blame and ask them not to report it.</p>

What does this tell you about your character that you would think to do something so stupid for a PE class change?
You seem to regret that you got caught, not remorseful about trying to circumvent the gc by adding yourself to the PE class.
You need to reflect why you could not accept a no.
The gc will be sending in your final transcript and will be able to write about the suspension since you breached her computer.

<p>Don’t be stupid, apply to the schools you would’ve in the first place. Do you think that not one student from Harvard has ever been suspended? Granted there probably aren’t a lot of them, but there is no way that 0 of the people accepted to HYPSM schools have ever been suspended.</p>

<p>my friend got suspended for a similar reason… she was caught checkin her personal email on the school’s computer and suspended for 2 days. like i told her, as long as you explain the situation and talk to your gc about it (apologize!) you should be fine. it wasn’t like you were suspended for violence, cheating, etc. good luck! just remember, everyone makes mistakes, the most important thing to do now is to try to grow and learn from it</p>
<p>You want to cheer up? A friend of mine last year got suspended once for getting caught with marijuana on a school trip and another time for smoking it in school…and he got into Stanford.</p>
