so my health advisor told me that it is acceptable for APing out of Physics

My health advisor said that, with my AP credits for Physics and ITS LABS, that i should just AP out of it and just focus on completing major requirements. However, I don't feel like I'm very strong in Physics just by looking at the MCAT stuff for it. On the other hand, the school that i go to doesn't prepare well for MCAT type of physics according to a couple of supersmart seniors with 35/36s on the MCAT's that i know. They also recommend on skipping physics. So i brought attention to my health advisor about this website and its constant warnings of not using AP credit for premed prereqs, and my health advisor has said that since our school gives credit for the classes, and since that credit will appear on the transcript, that the prereqs placed out with AP will count and that in his 30something years of experience, he has never seen a student using AP credits being called out for them by med schools. So my question, if i do AP out of physics, can i start physics prep for MCATs as early as summer of freshmen year?

bumparoo!!!

Honestly, I have more views for this post than some others in this thread yet the others have AT LEAST one reply…Is my topic boring for you?

No replies probably because there is no definitive answer to your question.

You need to contact the medical schools you’re most likely to apply to and ask them specifically what their policy is on the issue. Get your answer in writing and SAVE it.

Different schools have different policies so the onus in you to find out.

I have no actual experience with the mcat, but reading cc and other blogs gives me the impression that the physics tested on the mcat is rather limited and basic, and any holes in your knowledge can be self-taught during prep. Dunno if that is true, however.

I’ve been warned by some med school admissions people I’ve talked with about AP Bio and AP Chem. They haven’t mentioned AP Physics. They may be ok with that one - emphasis on the “may” as I haven’t asked about that one either.

However, if I remember correctly, when the MCAT changes, isn’t there the possibility of Calc based Physics on it?

OP, here’s a handy guide (it’s highly accurate, but not perfect) to AP questions sorted by Medical School.

Note: You MUST have the AP credit on your transcript as if it were a completed course from your UG college. It is also recommended to take a higher level course in residence if you can.

BEWARE the Cal schools.

Highly doubtful. The test is going the other way: adding social science requirements.

^^^ That’s good to know. Thanks.
