So my son forgot to send in his scores to his ED (where he was deferred) and to all RD colleges.

He is going to send them all tonight, but how much will this affect his chances? Of course he listed them all on the Common App so the schools have them but does this reflect badly on him? He thought the schools included them with their transcript. Oy. What a terrible night.

They need to be submitted by his school via common app

No actually, that is what we thought before and that is wrong. The Common App is submitted by the student. And so are all the scores.

Not necessarily. It depends on what each college requires. Some require the official score report from the CB with the application. Others are fine with self reporting on the CA and/or having the scores on the transcript.

As long as he sends them now to those colleges that require a score report, it is unlikely to hurt his chances. Good luck.

But it’s a lesson for others - verify what each college wants.

Many of my dd’s schools required scores directly form college board.

Be sure to check!

Yeah we submitted scores from College Board directly to the colleges

College Board here too.

Some schools don’t require them unless you are accepted these days; they’ll accept self reporting in the application. You may be able to tell from the college websites. But it doesn’t hurt to send them. @airway1 , many high schools don’t deal with the scores. The student more commonly sends them directly from College Board. Sometimes the HS will print them on the transcript if they have them (a crappy policy, IMHO, usually ruins the ability to do score choice).

Our high school has been closed this week with this snow and cold weather… terrible timing! @intparent

Nothing stops you from sending scores directly from College Board (except money).

A few days after you submit any college application, the college sends you an email providing login info for your application portal. Logging in will show you what components of your application are missing.

Students are responsible for sending official SAT scores directly from College Board to the admissions office.

Some high schools may include scores - but don’t take the chance, always send official copies, and always send them early.

Make sure your kid has a check list on what needs to be done. Our kids school sent grades to all colleges plus they were sent via college board. Yes, there were a few that he would self report. We reviewed with our kids what was done per college etc. This was not the time we were going to have them screw up for a lesson learned. My son didn’t want us to look at his applications… " I got this" type of attitude. Great… But we said, before you hit submit, let us take a quick look… Lol… Were there mistakes? … Of course, minor but still mistakes. After that first one he would come to us and just say, “I am going to hit submit, take a quick look”
Ha… We all make mistakes but sometimes it’s good to have another set of eyes. ’

Some schools will be ok with it and allow self reporting but others wil not. Good luck to him, that’s rough.

In case this isn’t clear, there is no blanket rule. You need to check the standardized test requirements on the website of each college to see whether they require an official report from College Board now or whether they allow self-reporting in the Common App instead. Many more now allow self-reporting than in the past (to be followed by an official report later, only upon deciding to enroll); a number of colleges changed this requirement just last summer.
