Hello everybody, I recently got into Bentley University off of the wait-list. So I just put my deposit down there, but I am freaking out. This semester has been a rough one for me. I had a surgery on my elbow, my best friend went to jail after a family argument, and one of my friend's dad died. As a result of these circumstances I will finish with a 65-67 in my pre-calc class (depending on my final exam grade). All of my other grades are fine (maybe a slight drop off, nothing big though.) The reason I am doing so bad in my math class is because while all my other teachers were accommodating with me, my math teacher made me take a test as soon as I got back from my surgery, and then the day after my friend's dad's wake, I got stuck taking another major test. I have never in my life gotten such low grades before and I am mortified. However, I did do good in my first semester so overall my average would be a little over a 75. Would the colleges see my year grade or the second semester grade? Should I be concerned? Thanks for the help.

I think colleges only see the final average. They might question the drop in grades, but if you explain the circumstance I think you’ll be fine.

They will only see your final transcript (end of the year) grades. If you want, you could send in a letter explaining everything; I’m sure they’ll understand. I’m sorry all of this happened to you!

Thank you for the responses, I feel so much more relieved!

Yeah colleges aren’t out to get you. If you explain your story, they’ll believe it and let you go. Admissions personel in colleges are people too.
