so what are my chances?

hi eveyone!
well, before I came to this site I thought I was on the right track for my dream school but everyone else's profiles blow me away...currently i'm a junior and i feel like my chances are very slim... i've became very discouraged especially with everyone's impressive profiles so i was wondering if anyone would chance me and provide me with some advice on what to do in order to increase my chances to get into the ivies since i still have some time. your help would be realli appreciated =)

my #1 choice is UPenn

-School: Large public around 3,700 kids?
-Class Rank: 1/825
-gpa: I'm sry =( but i don't know how the 4.0 scale works but my cum gpa is 101.313
-Currently a junior a graduate of 2009

Strength of Schedule
-my school doesn't offer a lot of AP classes only a total of five. I've always taken the most rigorous courses my school offers according to our grade level but its nothing compared to everyone else's...but here's a look of my schedule from my freshman year to junior year:

Freshman Year
H Plane Geometry
College Algebra
H English I

Junior Year

Comparing to everyone else's classes and there 100 ap classes mine looks like cupcake classes.. will tere go against me?

Standardized test scores

Passions: I very passionated towards science n business yea very different things..but more towards science n as u can see i chose all science related electives. however, compared to others..my level of passion sucks..

so according to my profile n if i were to do reasonably well on SAT I and II (not perfect or nething near perfect) what are my chances for the Ivies....

n wut could i do to increase my chances?

your help would greatly be appreciated =)
Thanks!

still no responses =(
btw im chinese..even worse haha
for me to get into upenn or nething like it is jus a dream eh?

i think you have a good shot as of right now, but it is kinda hard to say without sat scores. the cheerleading thing is impressive.

realli?
arghh my parents made me quit cuz they didn't think it'll help with college

yea i would say try to get back into cheerleading because imo, anything that your really good at is a good thing in college admissions (unless your really good at robbing banks or something)

Cheerleading's kind of crazy at our school tho...its more like a life than an ec. They practice everyday n cheer football, bball (boys n girls) our varsity has always placed top 10 at nationals n they practice like crazy..i don't think i'd be able to handle all that plus school n other ec im in

you are definitely on the right track. make sure you take the hardest courseload you can because your school lacks so many AP classes. also cheerleading would be a bonus given and assuming that in general, cheerleaders are not that high achieving, of course there are always exceptions.

not to be offensive, but the common stereotype these days is that cheerleaders are "dumb." Prove the colleges wrong! Idk, but that sounds like a promising essay topic, ha ha. But hard to say anything until your SATs are up, and your class system is WAY different from my own, so can't say anything.
Oh, and about club leadership stuff, I heard colleges dont care unless you were the president, founder, or sometimes the VP, so aim high when running for offices.

And if there isn't already, you can be the founder of MUN, debate, or Acadec and stuff like that. That would be impressive for apps.

o good thanks guys iight aim high..
the stereotype is true..they are but my asianness cancels tat out haha i have many many blonde moments but i can't realli base my essay on cheerleading cuz i only did it my freshman year..my parents made me quit..darnn if only i knew that then..yea i guess not many cheerleaders apply to ivies

hmm, i'm sure the fact that ur school doesn't have many AP classes won't be held againt u, as long as u aim high and take the hardest classes they offer! however cheerleading IS good for college, especially since you're asian. you should've continued with it!! being part of a cheerleading squad that goes to nationals and places in the top 10 is a great extracurricular! you don't need too many, you just need a couple that you're passionate about. and as for ur clubs, choose a couple (one or two) that you like the best and try to be president or vice president or something next year, that would stand out more.

your class rank/gpa is good, considering how many kids are in ur high school, but u gotta supplement that with good SAT scores and good SATII scores, too, to show that it's not just cuz ur school isn't as competitive or something, considering it only offers 5 aP classses. leaderships and sports are good.

have u done any national/state competitions?? find something you really like, and this year try for competitions such as, if you like math, the AMC/AIME series, and if you like science, there are tests for each subject that are very prestigious if you make it into the semifinals or the study camps. there are others, too, for other subjects. then you'll be very competitive for ivies.

and the summer of ur jr year is very important; go to a summer camp that's challenging and prestigious (most prestigious ones are scholarship-based ...camps like the national leadership forums and people to people just cost a lot of $$ and aren't prestigious at at).

andd don't worry about being asian, i'm asian too, and i can say that if you're asian and you have sports, it's a plus cuz that's totally not the stereotypical asian!! that would def. be a small hook. and even more important is your essay/teacher recs. if you write a good essay it could almost be the deciding factor :)
