So...What did you decide?

For those of you who were accepted to WashU and were trying to decide between WashU and other options, what did you decide and why?

My son decided to attend Rice instead. Although he would have preferred to get out of town, and he really liked Wash U's campus and atmosphere, he chose Rice because of the strength of its engineering program, its residential college system, its collaborative environment, its research opportunities, and the fact that he got 2 great scholarships from them (and NO scholarships from Wash U).

blackeyedsusan, congratulations and good luck! We will miss you around Wash U :(

Thanks! I really liked Wash U for him, but it's hard to justify an extra $100,000! Well, there's always son #2 in a few years.

Son probably going to Harvey Mudd instead--although to my surprise he still hasn't definitely ruled MIT out. Once those acceptances came in, WUSTL, vandy, and Cornell went out of the picture.

He is plans to major in some field of engineering or a not-a-premed hard science, and the phd path appears clearer at his top 2 schools. (Moreover, MIT is same cost as WUSTL, while Mudd offers a nice scholarship.)

I am a senior in high school, and I will be attending Washington University in St. Louis next fall.

I also got accepted into:
Brown (scholarship)
Rice
Northwestern
Emory
Georgia Tech
UGA (Honors Program)

However, I feel WUSTL has an unprecedented environment composed of its outstanding student body, eager professors, and a generic fun-loving yet academically motivated environment. I attended multicultural weekend, and I can honestly say I have met some of the coolest and most unique people in my life. Honestly, prestige has nothing to do with what you make of your college experience.

Daughter decided on WashU because of the ease of dual/double majoring and minoring; ability to to play her violin and take lessons from the professor while being a nonmusic major, opportunity to take art classes without majoring or minoring, the size of the campus, the distance from home (away, but not an entire day of travel away), undergraduate research opportunities, THE FOOD, the beautiful dorms, the friendliness of the students, AND the amazingly helpful parents we have come in contact with through CC and the list WashU provided. It is a good place for someone like her who loves to learn, but has absolutely no idea what she wants to do "when she grows up".

I just made my decision 2 days ago: I'll be attending WashU in the fall!

I turned down Northwestern and University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign with a near full-ride and Chancellor's Campus Honors Program (Offered to 125 out of approx. 7000 freshmen). Ouch! Definitely a hard choice, but it's worth it... :)

For those who chose Wash U--you will love this school!

D is going to Emory on a full ride -- that took Wash U and Duke out of the picture. I actually think Wash U may be the perfect fit for D # 2, currently a Soph.

i'm going to WashU :)! USP and almost full-tuition scholarship are the main reasons.

Turning down WUSTL for Duke. It was a hard decision. I really hope that I won't regret my choice.

Sunny, either way, there are regrets to be had, with choices like those. That's something to be thankful for.
