So what does this mean...? Nomination question!

I have a completed file at the Air Force Academy, my DoDmerb is complete and i have jumped through all of the other hoops that this application has presented to me but now i am in a major state of confusion. I received a nomination from my Senator a few weeks ago to USAFA and was excited…but then i got a phone call from my Congressman and his secretary told me that ive also received a nomination to the Air Force Academy from him. Except this nomination was a “primary” or “precedential” nomination. For one ive never heard of someone getting two nominations to the same service academy and secondly ive never really even heard of a primary nomination. Does anyone know anything about this sort of situation?
Thanks!! Tegan

If I'm correct, primary means they ranked you number one and if you are qualified (sounds like) then you must be given the appointment for that congressman.

Tow nominations isn't too unusual. Many people on here have it, one even has 3!

Congrats.

Principal nomination means your almost assured of getting in if your competative against 2010's class standards.

Multiple nominations happen...I somehow picked up 3...even though I had my appointment before two of them nominated me

It means your congressman told the AFA board "This is my top guy. I want him in."

Congrats. :)

thanks..i just had never really heard of either of these situations. i was sort of afraid that i somehow wasnt allowed to get two for the same place or something..i dont know! THanks though (and its "top girl" guy4christ)
Teg

I believe this website has more girls than guys on it... interesting when thinking of the ratio of Guys to Girls at the academy (8 in 10 are Guys!!!) I wonder why its disproportionate here???

but im not complaining!

haha! Neither am i..

i mean about the ratio at the academy..lol..that could have sounded bad.

hahahahahahahahah Itll make life more bearable out there

I have a question regarding my nomination. I was wondering if I received a congressional nomination, but no mention of whether it was a principal nomination or any other kind what does that mean. My congressman has just been elected so she has 5 vacancies.

check their website. my congressman specifies what type he uses in the info about a nom.

On the website under the nomination category it just says who my representative is and that it was received.

Chances are that it is unranked. I know its that way for my congressman and senators in texas.

Also, I think the 5 vacancies doesn't count and it carries over from the last congressman, however many they would have had this year.

check the actual representatives website. sorry i guess i wasnt clear on that. even though your moc has 5 vacancies they still need to keep some open for next year. filling all five this year means no slots next year. they will fill two at the most.

That 5 slot thing is very loosely followed.

Don't really understand the legality of it all, but each congressman is allowed to actually make 10 nominations per year. That seems to contradict the idea that they can only have a maximum of 5 in the academy at any one time. Our congressman sends 5 or 6 candidates to USAFA every year. It looks like this year he will be sending four to the academy just from our little town of about 9000 population.

At my representatives banquet for appointees/cadets I think there were near 10 USAFA cadets he had in at one time.

above link seems to be about as authoritative as any concerning academy nominations.

So does anyone know the rankings of nominatiosn that can be given out by Senators and Congressmen? And also can the President or Vice-President give out nominations? Just wondering.. and also is a congressional nomination the average nomination?
